King Power Stadium – Premier League

Leicester host Huddersfield on New Years day, with Claude Puel's side looking to return to winning ways after four games without a victory. The Terriers have been on good form of late, and will look to frustrate their opponents.

Past Meetings

Leicester and Huddersfield know each other well from years in the lower echelons of English football, but are both very different teams since their respective promotions. The reverse fixture, played back in September, saw a closely contested 1-1 draw, with a penalty from Jamie Vardy cancelling out a Laurent Depoitre strike.

Team News

Claude Puel will welcome back Daniel Amarty after a yellow-card suspension, whilst the match may see returns to the starting XI for Matty James and Robert Huth, both of whom have been out since September. As it falls on the beginning of the transfer window, Leicester will also be able to register Adrien Silva, who missed the summer deadline.

Michele Hefele and Jon Gorenc-Stankovic should see returns after long spells out, with Philip Billing approaching full fitness too. Elias Kachunga is still a long way off, having suffered ligament damage in mid-December.

Leicester v Huddersfield Preview and Predictions

The Foxes’ form has been somewhat of an enigma in recent weeks, having won and drawn against Tottenham and Manchester United respectively, but lost to Crystal Palace and Watford. Even though Claude Puel’s men are openly scoring, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in five games, and are 6/5 to do so against Huddersfield.

The new manager has yet to settle on a definitive formation, having played with the traditional 4-4-1-1, but also experimented with a 4-2-3-1. Whatever the manager has done, it has helped Riyad Mahrez rediscover his title-winning form, as the Algerian has been involved in seven league goals since Puel took over.

Huddersfield manager David Wagner appears to also have discovered how to get the most out of his forwards, as Laurent Depoitre has scored more goals in the past five games than the rest of the season. The Belgian is 3/1 to score anytime against Leicester and could thrive on their struggling defence.

Monday’s result is very hard to predict, and depends on which Leicester turn up. The Foxes undoubtedly have the quality to beat their opposition, however if they don’t shore up their defence, a draw, at 16/5, may be more likely.

Recommended Bets

Riyad Mahrez to score anytime at 13/8

The winger has been free-scoring at the moment and will be vital to Leicester's hopes of unlocking the visiting defence.

Leicester to win and both teams to score at 11/4

Leicester’s defence has been far from impregnable but they have been scoring enough to deal with it.
