Liberty Stadium - Premier League

Even though it’s a first home game for new manager Carlos Carvalhal, getting a result will be tough for Swansea as Tottenham arrive at the Liberty. The Premier League’s basement club need to start picking up some points as soon as possible.

Past Meetings

Swansea haven’t beaten Tottenham since the South Wales club returned to the top flight in 2011. Spurs have won 10 of the 13 fixtures in this time, although the Swans did manage to leave Wembley with a point earlier this season after a goalless draw in September.

Team News

With his new team comfortably the lowest scorers in the Premier League, Carvalhal will be desperate to see Wilfried Bony back from his hamstring strain. Sung-Yueng Ki and Kyle Bartley could both return after respective calf and knee injuries, which would be a boost for Swansea’s options.

For the visitors, Harry Kane is a doubt after the record-breaking striker fell ill following his back-to-back hat-tricks. Former Swans man Fernando Llorente could start if Kane doesn’t make it. Mousa Dembele is a doubt but could make the game after a late fitness test, while Victor Wanyama is closing in on a return.

Swansea v Tottenham Preview and Predictions

It’s fair to say that there was plenty of negativity emanating from Swansea supporters upon the appointment of Carvalhal, so the new boss will hope for a strong performance in his first game at the Liberty. Tottenham have a bit of ground to make up on the top four though, and they’ll be in the mood to prolong the pessimism in South Wales.

The Swans go into the game at a massive 14/1, which is a huge price considering they’re playing at home. The odds just show the gulf in class between the two squads though, with Swansea struggling badly for goals after netting just 11 in their opening 20 games. If you think an upset could be on the cards though, perhaps a second draw of the season between these two could be a more realistic bet at 5/1.

Tottenham have been hitting some decent form of late, and after smashing eight goals in their last two games, they’re huge favourites for this one and priced at 3/10 in the betting. Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be blunted if star man Kane doesn’t play, but if he does the No.10 is priced at 10/1 to bag a hat-trick of hat-tricks.

Recommended Bets

Tottenham to win to nil at 10/11

Swansea can’t seem to get their strikers scoring this season, so this bet looks like a decent way to improve your odds on the away win.

0-0 draw at 14/1

If Kane misses out, this bet becomes pretty tempting for the Swans to dig in and claim their second goalless draw of the season against Spurs.
