Sunday April 23 – Wembley Stadium – FA Cup Semi Final
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger takes his team to Wembley on Sunday, to face Manchester City, with the chance of a third FA Cup final in four seasons.
Arsenal have a slight edge over Pep Guardiola’s Blues in their recent meetings, winning two of their last six Premier League meetings, compared just a solitary Manchester City win and three draws.
Arsenal have a number of injury concerns ahead of their big day at Wembley, with defender Shokhdran Mustafi set to miss out. The Germany international missed the Gunners 2-1 win over Middlesbrough on Monday with a thigh injury, and he is unlikely to be fit in time.
In his absence Wenger could stick with the three man defence that started against Boro, or recall Hector Bellerin and revert to a back four.
Forward Danny Welbeck is rated doubtful with a foot injury, and goalkeeper David Ospina and striker Lucas Perez are both still sidelined.
Manchester City’s only real injury concern is over defender John Stones, with the England international struggling with a thigh problem. He missed their 3-0 win against Southampton, and if he’s ruled out, club captain Vincent Kompany should start.
Full back Bacary Sagna remains out with a groin strain, with Gabriel Jesus and Ilkay Gundogan out with long term injuries.
Arsenal v Manchester City Preview and Predictions
Both sides are desperate not to end the season without some silverware for the efforts in 2016-17, and the FA Cup is their only chance.
Arsenal have a fantastic record in the competition, winning it a joint record 12 times, including back-to-back wins in 2014 and 2015.
City’s last FA Cup was in 2011, and they have lifted the trophy five times in their history.
Neither side is in fantastic form, with City managing just two wins in their last six games in all competitions, with Arsenal winning three of their last six. The 2-2 Premier League draw between them in April offers little indication on how this one will go, as it exposed the best and worst of both sides.
Given the pressure on Wenger he could have an edge on Guardiola, who is yet to reach a final in England, and that could swing it in Arsenal’s favour.
An Arsenal victory is priced at 3/1, although given the forward talent on display, there is likely to be goals, and an Over 2.5 goals bet is 8/15.
Alexis Sanchez To Score First at 11/2
The Chilean has been head and shoulders above the rest for Arsenal this season, with 23 goals in all competitions, and Arsenal will need him on fire on Sunday
Both Teams To Score at 4/9
With Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil facing up against Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva, it is a recipe for goal, particularly against two defences that regularly flatter to deceive.
