Stamford Bridge - Premier League

Chelsea host West Brom at Stamford Bridge in the latest instalment of Monday night football, with the Blues looking to stop the rot. Antonio Conte’s reign has unravelled in spectacular fashion over recent weeks, and the Baggies will look to heap further misery on the beleaguered Italian.

Past Meetings

Alvaro Morata opened the scoring before an Eden Hazard brace and a strike from Marcos Alonso completed the scoring in a 4-0 win for Chelsea at the Hawthorns in November. The Blues are unbeaten in their last five against West Brom, although the Baggies did take a point from Stamford Bridge just over two years ago thanks to a late James McClean equaliser.

Team News

Tiemoue Bakayoko is suspended for this game after his sending off at Watford last Monday, while Pedro is set to miss out with an ankle injury. Morata is still struggling with a back problem, so Olivier Giroud could make his first Chelsea start in this one. Andreas Christensen and Ross Barkley are both out with hamstring issues.

Alan Pardew meanwhile is hopeful that a quartet of players are fit to play. Kieran Gibbs, Hal Robson-Kanu, Jake Livermore and Grzegorz Krychowiak are all close to full fitness, although this game comes too soon for captain Jonny Evans who has a nerve problem in his back. Nacer Chadli and James Morrison are also out injured.

Chelsea v West Brom Preview and Predictions

All the talk ahead of this fixture is about the future of Chelsea boss Conte, who’s looked like an unhappy camper for the majority of this season. His players seem to have downed tools over recent weeks, and West Brom will hope to take advantage of this on Monday.

It appears like heads have gone down at Stamford Bridge, and it wouldn’t be first time this set of players have given up on a manager. The Blues have won just one of five Premier League games since the start of January, collapsing to embarrassing defeats against Bournemouth and Watford in their last two. Whether Conte’s in the home dugout for this game or not, they still start as heavy favourites in the betting, and are priced at 2/5 for the win.

West Brom are 10/1 to inflict a third straight defeat on Chelsea, which would be the Baggies’ first victory at Stamford Bridge in almost 40 years. Pardew’s side are four points adrift at the foot of the Premier League table, and with the three teams on 24 points above them all playing at home this weekend, it’s not hard to see them ending this round of fixtures seven from safety. A draw would be a decent result for the visitors, and the bookmakers have this at 22/5.

Recommended Bets

Chelsea to win and both teams to score at 23/10

With the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Jay Rodriguez and Salomon Rondon up top, West Brom pose a threat to a Chelsea defence that’s conceded seven in their last two. The hosts should still have enough to win though.

Giroud to score first at 4/1

The Frenchman will be anxious to get off the mark for his new club, and he’s expected to lead the line with Morata out. The former Arsenal striker is 21/20 to score anytime in a home win.
