Believe it or not, the new season is just six weeks away and the race for top European talent has already commenced among the Premier League’s leading clubs. With the season starting even earlier for those competition in the Europa League and Champions League qualifying rounds, fans have only a short period of time to save their money, book their tickets and secure that all important time off work!

Fortunately, technology is at hand to help the modern fan prepare for the new season. Here are five football apps that offer practical help to fans nationwide…

FootiePubs (MX Data, £1.99)

Ideal for those fans who like to venture out and watch their favourite team over a pint, the FootiePubs app highlights exactly where you and your group and can enjoy lives games as they happen. It will use GPS to list the nearest pubs to your current location, and even map out a viable route for you to get there. Restricted to London at present, it will be rolled out in Liverpool and other UK cities throughout the season.

ESPN Goals (ESPN, Free)

Have you missed your favourite team in action? Perhaps you have had to do some decorating or go out shopping with the wife, but either way the ESPN goals app can keep you updated with the latest goals and match action from the EPL. This app is free, and the listings are updated moments after games have been completed.

Football League: Official Clubs App (The Other Media Ltd, Free to £4.99)

A largely free to access app with in-built purchase options, this resource performs the same function as the ESPN Goals alternative by relaying all goals and match action from the lower leagues. You can also access real-time team news and statistics, while there is an option to upgrade for highlights and videos.

Super Save (Neon Play, £0.69)

If you have ever played ‘Flick Football’, this sequel is ideal for you! It is even more responsive and addictive, as players are required to develop cat-like reflexes and produce incredible saves to keep out penalties of increasing speed and power. This app can offer hours of fun, while it is available for a snip at just £0.69.

Football Banter (Steve Reynolds, £0.69)

One of our favourite apps at BetHut, ‘Football Banter’ effectively captures the Zeitgeist of modern interaction between fans and players alike through social media. Putting you closer to your idols than ever, it aggregates the latest philosophical offering on Twitter and all social media sites before compacting these into a daily alert. You can also peruse these musing at your leisure, although we recommend that you do not expect too much in the way of profound thinking!
