Chelsea agree £3.5m deal to sign New York Red Bulls Matt Miazga
February 02, 2016
The New York Red Bulls defender finalised his move to Chelsea last night. The move was completed swiftly as the player did not require a work permit to play in England due to his Polish passport.
Chelsea have been tracking the MLS star since November and have been keen to sign a centre-back to replace their ageing captain John Terry.
The 24-year old defender is highly rated in America and in the past has received offers from other Premier League clubs such as Leicester city and Stoke. But the MLS star chose to stay and continue his development at New York Red Bulls instead.
The likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City have also reportedly shown interest in the player over the last few months.
Coaches in the MLS rate him as one of the best prospect in the American league and have made claims that he shows potential to go on and become the best defender in the world.
Similar to Terry, Miazga is a natural leader on the pitch, who likes to initiates attacking moves from the back with his range of passing.
Miazga has just one year remaining on his current contract as he recently turned down the chance to extend his contract before Christmas.
