5 of the Most Attractive WAGs Going to the Russia World Cup

February 05, 2018

- Grant Whittington

It says a great deal about England’s 2010 World Cup campaign that it’s remembered more for the presence of the team’s WAGs than it is for the on-field performance.

Make no mistake, many fans felt that the glamorous forms of Cheryl Cole, Victoria Beckham and Coleen Rooney lit up the World Cup in South Africa, even though the manager at the time Fabio Capello disagreed and banned the WAG from attending future tournaments.

Capello is no longer in charge of the Three Lions though and thankfully WAGs from across the globe will be in attendance when the 2018 World Cup kicks off in Russia this summer. Here are five of the most stunning:

1) Miranda Shelia, Russia

Russia’s Miranda Shelia is sure to be a prominent figure at the 2018 World Cup, particularly given her controversial history with fans of the national team.

In fact, the girlfriend of Fedor Smolov earned the wrath of the Russian fans following the side’s exit from the 2016 European Championships in France. While her other half was losing to the Welsh side, she was spotted posing in front of the Eiffel Tower clutching a designer handbag.

Fortunately, the stunning Shelia remains unashamedly active on social media, meaning that she’ll be sure to grab a headline or two during the summer World Cup.

2) Hiba Elawadi, Egypt

Although Ahmed Elmohamady may not be the most prolific player at this year’s World Cup, the Egyptian wing-back certainly boasts one of the most attractive WAGs.

Elmohamady is married to fashion boutique owner and entrepreneur Hiba Elawadi, who boasts several business interests and will light up the Russian World Cup with both her brains and her beauty.

Interestingly, Elawadi describes herself as an “undercover WAG”, but she’ll be sure to capture plenty of column inches this summer.

3) Sofia Balbi, Uruguay

Let’s face facts, Luis Suarez is no stranger to controversy on the world stage. In fact, he turned almost the entire world against him at consecutive World Cup’s in 2010 and 2014, first saving a decisive, goal-bound shot with his hand in a quarter-final against Ghana and then biting a chunk out of Italian defender’s Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulder.

If there’s two things that Suarez can rely on however, it’s his God-given talent and the support of his beautiful wife Sofia Balbi.

In fact, Balbi has been credited as a soothing influence on the brilliant but volatile Suarez, helping him to harness his talent and become a true, world class performer. She’ll certainly be by his side in Russia as he looks to fire his side towards a successful campaign.

4) Georgina Rodriguez, Portugal

Arguably, Cristiano Ronaldo made the transition from being a great to a legendary player when he won his first international tournament with Portugal at Euro 2016.

He also drew the spotlight onto his stunning partner Georgina Rodriguez, who is the mother of the forwards’ fourth child and boasts an exceptionally strong social media profile.

Interestingly, Rodriguez may well be torn during Portugal’s opening World Cup game against Spain, as while she’s loyal to her man she is also Spanish by birth. This will be an interesting space to watch, and we bet that she probably wouldn’t mind this match ending in a hard-earned draw!

5) Shakira, Spain

We close with one of the most famous WAGs, and the apparent heir to Victoria Beckham as the queen of the wives and girlfriends.

Shakira is a truly unique WAG, largely because she’s arguably more famous than her partner (the Barcelona and Spain centre-back Gerard Pique). After all, the pop-rock sensation has sold between 50 and 60 million records across the globe, while Sony has confirmed that she is the single most successful Columbian artist of all-time.

The brilliant Shakira will be in Russia and could command more camera time than many of the players on show!
