Antonella Roccuzzo – A Profile of Lionel Messi’s Wife
May 29, 2018
It’s been an interesting season for Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, with his club having occasionally underwhelmed despite winning a domestic double and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The Argentine himself has been in imperious form though scoring 45 goals in 54 games and laying on countless more assists.
The diminutive forward certainly seems content in his work and home life and this may have much to do with the fact that Messi married his long-term partner Antonella Roccuzzo on June 30th in their home town of Rosario year.
But who is Antonella Roccuzzo? We take a look.
A fairy-tale romance: when childhood sweethearts tie the knot
Messi’s relationship with Roccuzzo is relatively unusual in the world of football, with the two having grown up together in Argentina before the star striker moved to Barcelona as a teenager. Interestingly, the beautiful Roccuzzo is the cousin of the Barca player’s close childhood friend Lucas Scaglia, and it was from this that the two first became acquainted.
Having joined Messi in his Catalan adventure, the two began a loving and committed relationship, and after eight years of bliss they finally got married at a star-studded ceremony back where it all began.
As a teenager, Roccuzzo attended university in her native Argentina, studying Odontology before switching her interests to social communication.
Since becoming a mother to the couple’s two sons Thiago and Mateo, she has focused on raising her children and established herself as a successful entrepreneur, by launching her own line of footwear with Luis Suarez’ wife Sofia Balbi.
Like her husband, Antonella tends to avoid the spotlight, valuing her privacy ahead of anything else. In this respect, the pair are a perfect match, and as a couple they seem to embody the unique sense of humility that seems to set Messi apart from arguably less talented players in the current generation.
