Europa League – The final 32

February 15, 2017

It’s been over two months since our last dose of Europa League action, and if you’re anything like us then you’ll have been twiddling your thumbs on Thursday night’s ever since.

But, on the week where we should be treating our partners to roses and chocolate, BT Sport is gifting us with the most beautiful gift of all, some top-class footballing action.

The Europa League is into the final 32 and there’s a whole host of superb match ups taking place, including ties with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

For all your free bet needs take a look at our free bets here.

KAA Gent v Tottenham Hotspur

First up is Spurs at 6pm, taking on KAA Gent, a team struggling in mid-table in the Jupiler Pro League. Spurs are outright favourites for the tie at 5/6 with William Hill and are second favourites to win the Europa League behind English rivals Manchester United.

Pochettino’s men will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing defeat to top-four contenders Liverpool and there’s no better way to do that than all but securing a place in the final 16 of the Europa League.

It’s expected they will field a stronger side than they have throughout the competition and with the form of Alli and Kane you can expect them to fire a few past a side that have won just two of their last 10 league games.

Manchester United v Saint-Etienne

Things just seem to be clicking with Manchester United at the moment so it’s no surprise to see them among the Europa League favourites. The Red Devils have lost just one in 22 in all competitions and have conceded just one in their last five games, which makes it a very tough task for French side Saint-Etienne at Old Trafford.

United are expected to field a strong side and have no real injury concerns going into the tie. They’ll want to make the most of their home advantage in the first leg and we fully expect them to.

What’s Going On Elsewhere?

Around the grounds, there are a number of games well worth a free bet on. Our bookmakers are touting Roma as a contender for the Europa League but face a tricky first leg away at Villarreal. The Spaniards have had some good results of late, beating Atletico Madrid before the winter break and drawing with 3rd place Sevilla just a few weeks ago.

Another tasty tie comes in the form of Borussia Monchengladbach vs Fiorentina. Both teams aren’t particularly flying high this season but the German’s go into the game off the back of a three-game winning streak in the league so may be worth a punt.

Bankers include Olympiacos in their game against Turkish Osmanlispor and Athletic Bilbao who face Cypriots APOEL Nicosia, while you’ll find good odds on a fair few ties that are hanging in the balance.
