Your FA Cup Quarter Final Preview

March 10, 2017

- Grant Whittington

It’s just a matter of hours now until a historic FA Cup Quarter Final kicks off. Lincoln City have done the incredible and are now, incredibly, only 90 minutes away from Wembley. The Fifth Round was a real cracker and has set up some scintillating ties this weekend.

While Lincoln have been dealt the dream tie at the Emirates, Millwall travel to White Hart Lane and the tie of the round sees Jose Mourinho back at his old stomping ground on Monday night.

It’s going to be an incredible weekend, and who knows we may even see someone upset the odds in the FA Cup. Here’s our preview of all the FA Cup Quarter Finals…

Saturday 11 March

Middlesbrough vs Manchester City

12:15pm

Middlesbrough have pedigree in the FA Cup against Manchester City, so despite being towards the foot of the Premier League, it could make for an interesting game. The pair have met once already this season, with the Teesiders grabbing a last gasp equaliser, but their mind will be cast back a little further to the Fourth Round in 2015 when they triumphed 2-0.

Aitor Karanka does have bigger fish to fry however, with relegation a real possibility. City are looking towards the cups now they’re practically out of the title race and while half an eye may be on Monaco in the week, Pep will be desperate to pick up as much silverware as possible in his first reason. Football betting sites in the UK are seeing City as 4/9 favourites tomorrow and 3/1 to win the FA Cup according to William Hill. It seems a nailed on result.

Arsenal vs Lincoln City

17:30pm

Arsenal fans aside, there won’t be a fan on the planet wishing defeat on Lincoln tomorrow evening and you can back them at 28/1 to progress into the Semi-Final. Dan Cowley in his men are treating it more as a 1000/1 shot at victory but stranger things have happened. In fact, stranger things have happened in this season’s competition alone – anyone remember piegate?!

Lincoln are a well drilled side and are storming the National League and FA Trophy outside of the FA Cup bubble. It won’t be as easy as Arsenal fans think it may be but is Arsene Wenger going to lose 5-1 and to a non-league side in the space of a week? Probably not.

It would be typical of the Gunners to go all the way from here. Most UK football betting sites have them at 3/1 in the overall FA Cup winners odds, and we wouldn’t go against that.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Millwall

14:00

This London derby is all set to become a real cracker of a tie. The Lions are in fine form of late and have knocked out Premier League opposition already. In terms of Football League betting, you can get Millwall at 5/2 for promotion which is not a bad bet at all. Meanwhile Spurs were very impressive against Everton at the weekend.

Spurs have won 13 of their last 14 against lower league opposition and at 1/7 it’s likely that will become 14 in 15. Kane had a successful loan spell with Hull back in 2012 and he will be the key man in putting their FA Cup dreams to bed on Sunday. It should be another top four Premier League side heading to Wembley.

Monday 13 March

Chelsea vs Manchester United

19:45

If there’s one game that’s got replay written on it, then it’s this one. Manchester United have proven pretty impossible to beat of late and you could bet your house on Mourinho going to Chelsea with the motive of keeping it incredibly tight.

The bookmakers have Chelsea as odds on to win but the draw at 9/4 looks a fairly decent bet. The bonus for Chelsea is that they don’t have to think of a midweek game, nor have they travelled to Russia and back in the week. United will go into the game without a striker according to the latest football news and also could be tired following the long trip, which could present an opportunity for Chelsea to get on top.

It’ll be an interesting tie. If United can overcome the midweek trip to Rostov-on-Don then it could be a very tight affair.
