Who are the top-rated players in FIFA 18?

Released at the end of September, FIFA 18 is already being played by hundreds of thousands of households across the UK. There are also countless copies wrapped up and sitting beneath Christmas trees nationwide, with FIFA’s latest instalment topping the sales chart throughout November.

Even for non-players, it’s always interesting to see how the world’s best footballers are rated on the game, and at BetHut we can’t resist the notion of Cristiano Ronaldo checking his numbers to see whether he or Lionel Messi are considered superior.

We’ve looked at FIFA 18’s top-rated players and considered how you should deploy these players in your team.

Do the big three equal your front three?
Cristiano Ronaldo can rest easy this year, as EA has given him the highest overall rating of 94. This puts him a point ahead of his Argentinean rival Lionel Messi, who trails marginally behind with a rating of 93 – although we have a sneaking suspicion that this is because Ronaldo is on the cover.

Continuing the theme of talented and dominant forwards, Brazil’s talisman Neymar is next up with an overall rating of 92, fittingly ranked just behind the two men who many expect he will surpass as the world’s best player during the next few years. He has company in attack however, with Luis Suarez joining him on a rating of 92 and providing food for thought for those selecting their teams.

Presuming you play with three forwards, you may be tempted to select the dominant trio of Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar – and who wouldn’t want these players operating in tandem? Suarez may boast a better option alongside Messi and Ronaldo though. Despite having the same rating as Neymar, you’ll be able to achieve better chemistry in your line-up with two Barcelona stars.

The case for the defence
Interestingly, Bayern Munich keeper Manuel Neuer is the only player ranked in the top five who is not a forward. His 92 rating is two points ahead of the brilliant Manchester United keeper David de Gea and the legendary Gianluigi Buffon. He certainly makes for a sensible choice between the sticks, but who should play in front him as part of the defence?

FIFA legends Sergio Ramos and Giorgio Chiellini (rated 90 and 89 respectively) would make excellent additions to a four-man defence, while we also like the 88-rated Diego Godin in the central position.

There’s also a strong case for Chiellini’s Juventus teammate Alex Sandro, who remained in Turin despite several big bids from Chelsea and Manchester City during the summer. His excellent form in the Champions League saw him earn a two-point increase on his FIFA 2017 rating (from 84 to 86). He’d also make for a harmonious selection alongside Chiellini.

Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld has also joined Sandro in the prestigious 86-point club this summer, so he’s also worthy of consideration in your ultimate team.

Claiming the middle ground
When it comes to our suggestion of three players in the middle of the park, you’re spoiled for choice this year. A few performers stand out above others though, particularly given how the season has progressed so far.

The evergreen David Silva has maintained an overall rating of 87 for FIFA 18, but those with eagle eyes will have noticed that his defensive and physical ratings have improved since last year. This makes him a solid pick, even ahead of his City colleague Kevin De Bruyne (whose overall rating increased from 88 to 89 this time around). If the Belgian continues his current sparkling form however, he may well be the first player to reach a three-figure rating in time for FIFA 19.

We also like the Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric, who has maintained a rating of 89 for what seems like decades. Arguably one of the most complete players on the game, the only surprise is a relatively low passing rating of 86.

Our final spot goes to the fast-improving Bayern Munich star Thiago, whose rating has increased from 85 to an impressive 88 for FIFA 18. He also offers a coveted, five-star skill move, so he’s sure to be in high demand again this season.

With this selection and the imperious Ronaldo as your skipper, you can look forward to a glorious season, as well as enjoying the same immersive gameplay of FIFA’s latest instalment.
