Sevilla v Manchester United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews

February 19, 2018

- Grant Whittington

Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium - Champions League

Sevilla host Manchester United in the Champions League on Wednesday, having struggled to get going in the group stages earlier in the tournament. The Red Devils have lost just once in the Champions League this season and will be looking to continue their impressive form.

Past Meetings

The two sides' most recent meeting came in an international friendly in the summer of 2013. Sevilla ran out winners on the day, with goals from Vitolo, Marko Marin and Bryan Rabello cancelling out Antonio Valencia's strike.

Team News

Sevilla are without their first choice centre-back Simon Kjaer, with the Dane suffering from a back injury. Fellow defender Sebastian Corchia will also miss out, due to a groin injury, the same insult that has sidelined former Man City player Nolito since the start of the month.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the only major injury for Jose Mourinho's side, although Eric Bailly is still a way off match fitness and Paul Pogba a major doubt having missed the FA Cup tie with Huddersfield.

Sevilla v Manchester United Preview and Predictions

Wednesday's match pitches the current Europa League winners against the former holders, as Manchester United's victory last summer saw them dethrone Sevilla, who had one the title a record three consecutive years.

In Europe's premier competition this season, United have looked very impressive. Dominant wins over the likes of Benefica and CSKA Moscow saw the side lose just once in their road to the knock-out stages. With the race for the Premier League effectively over, a good run in the Champions League is important for both the club and the fans' moral.

Sevilla failed to match their opponents' fine form in the group stages, having been on the wrong side of a 5-1 thrashing by Spartak Moscow, not to mention a draw against minnows Maribor. However, having progressed, Vincenzo Montella will be keen to dispel any negative memories from the last few months.

Domestically Sevilla are in fine form, with just one loss in all competitions in their last nine games. Their last match, a 2-1 win over Las Palmas, saw yet another goal from Wissam Ben Yedder, who has been fighting to retain his starting role over Luis Muriel. Montella has a host of attacking midfielders at his disposal, and how he fields the likes of Ganso, Ever Banega, Pablo Sarabria and Franco Vazquez will be key to his side's chances on Wednesday.

United are just about favourites going into the game, but with Sevilla's big-match experience, it is never wise to count them out.

Recommended Bets

Ben Yedder to score first at 11/2

The French forward has the best shot accuracy of any players to have scored six or more goals in the Champions League this season.

Both teams to score and United to win at 4/1

The match should be close, but if United play at the standard they are capable of, they should come out on top.
