Who Will Win the Golden Boot in 2015/16?

October 11, 2015

- Grant Whittington

While the Premier League season is underway, the race for the Golden Boot appears to have been a little slow to get started. After all, while much-vaunted candidates such as Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku have started well and displayed good form, neither has been prolific while forwards such as Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane and Diego Costa have yet to really get going this season. Even Christian Benteke has begun slowly, and there is no obvious candidate for success.

Despite this and the form of Swansea’s in-form striker Bafétimbi Gomis, you get the feeling that some of the usual suspects will challenge for the Golden Boot come the end of the season. Here are our favourites at Bethut…

Sergio Aguero

Aguero seems to have finally found his feet this season and beginning to look incredible sharp. His performance and strike against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium was sensational, whilst his display vs Newcastle was truly astonishing. And he is leading a forward that has dazzled during City’s start to the season. As his understanding with Raheem Sterling continues to progress, a fully-fit Aguero will be odds on to lift the Golden Boot at the end of the season.

Alexis Sanchez

While Arsenal  started poorly this season, they are assured to be in the top four in May. They are also likely to click as an attacking and score a hatful of goals, with Alexis Sanchez integral to their fortunes this season. This talented and prolific Chilean can score all types of goals, and this gives him an edge over most in the quest for the Golden Boot. So long as he stays fit, he will be in with a chance at the end of the season.

Pedro

There has been an evolution in football recently, through which deep-lying forwards have become increasingly prolific while traditional strikers have assumed more selfless roles. As a result of this, we fancy Chelsea’s former Barcelona forward Pedro to have an outside chance of winning the Golden Boot, assuming the Jose Mourinho’s men develop some form after the international break. He’s already started to fit into Chelsea and his exceptional movement and finishing makes him a huge threat from deep.
