Jamtkraft Arena - Europa League

Europa League new-boys Oestersunds face one of the biggest matches in their history, as they host Arsenal in the Europa League. The Gunners will have been disappointed with their derby defeat to Tottenham, but may use this match to rest some key players.

Past Meetings

The sides have never met previously, with Oestersunds enjoying their first taste of european football, having only been promoted to the Swedish first division two years ago.

Team News

Graham Potter will be without key man Johan Bertillson who has been out since October, and is a real miss in attacking midfield for the side. Host Aiesh and Smajl Suljevic add to Oestersunds' injury list, further limiting the manager's options in midfield.

Arsenal are without Aaron Ramsey, who suffered a groin strain last week. Fellow midfielder Santi Cazorla has been out for over a year, and is unlikely to return this season.

Oestersunds v Arsenal Preview and Predictions

Oestersunds' fairytale story began two seasons ago, when they won promotion to the Allsvenskan for the first time. Despite finishing mid-table, the side's victory in the Svensca Cupen saw them earn entry to the Europa League qualification rounds, in which they won a famous victory over Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Managed by the only English coach in the Europa League, Graham Potter, Thursday's match will be a special night for both the clubs and the fans, who will have no intention of ending their campaign against Arsenal.

The North London club faces stiff competition for European football themselves, and are sitting in sixth place in the Premier League. As Manchester United proved last season, the Europa League can prove a useful opportunity for qualification for the continents first competition, and a trophy never hurts a manager's popularity.

Regardless, against Oestersunds, Arsne Wenger is likely to rotate his side, putting faith in his youth players, as he has done so far in the competition. With three strikers all vying for one position, it will be interesting to see whether Alexandre Lacazette, a £47 million transfer this summer, starts, or whether the job is handed to Danny Welbeck. The forwards are 6/5 and 5/4 respectively to score anytime, and both provide a quality of attacking play that Oestersunds have rarely had to deal with.

On Thursday, Arsenal should, in theory have no difficulty overcoming their opposition, however, the Swedish side will have nothing to loose, and playing the match of their lives.
