Apollon Limassol v Everton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 04, 2017
GSP Stadium - Europa League
Everton travel to Cyprus for the final Group E game of their dismal Europa League campaign, as they take on a similarly winless Apollon Limassol. The hosts’ campaign has been much more encouraging than the Toffees’ though, after there was so much hope on the blue half of Merseyside going into this season.
These two teams met in late September, which was the first time they’d played each other. Despite going behind early on, goals from Wayne Rooney and Nikola Vlasic put Everton into the lead, before a late equaliser from Hector Yuste earned the visitors a point.
With a trip to Anfield coming up for Everton on Sunday, it’ll be interesting to see the team that new boss Sam Allardyce names for this one. He could hand out opportunities to a host of fringe players, as the game in Cyprus is a dead rubber. The likes of Ross Barkley, Seamus Coleman and Yannick Bolasie are all nearing a return to action but none are likely to feature on Thursday. James McCarthy could feature though.
Apollon meanwhile have a big game of their own at the weekend as they try to hunt down league leaders Anorthosis, but they’re likely to name as strong a team as possible for Everton’s visit. Croatian forward Anton Maglica has been in good goalscoring form so far this season, and he’ll be the biggest threat to the Toffees backline.
Apollon Limassol v Everton Preview and Predictions
Although neither side has any chance of qualification for the knockout rounds, both Apollon and Everton will be keen to end their campaign with a maiden victory. The hosts will be hoping for a decent atmosphere at the GSP Stadium, which they’ve been using for their home games in the Europa League thanks to its bigger capacity.
After two encouraging wins at Goodison Park, Everton could use a decent performance away from home to keep the confidence going ahead of the Merseyside derby. It’s hard to see Allardyce going with a full strength side before his first taste of one of English football’s most anticipated games, but he’ll be keen to avoid another disappointing defeat on the European stage.
Apollon meanwhile have secured credible draws against Everton, Atalanta and Lyon, and it’d be an impressive feat if they finish their campaign undefeated in their home games. The reigning Cypriot Cup holders start the game as slight underdogs in the betting though, and you can back them at 19/10 for the win. Everton are priced at 8/5, while it’s 5/2 if you think the game will end in a draw.
Both teams to score at 4/6
With no pressure on either side, this game could turn out to be very open, making this an attractive bet.
Everton to score first at 19/20
The Toffees should be full of confidence after the last couple of games, which might help them to make a fast start and get the first goal of the game.
