Argentina v Italy Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
March 19, 2018
Etihad Stadium - International Friendly
The Etihad Stadium will play host to the glamour friendly between Argentina and Italy, as the South Americans prepare for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Argentina defeated Italy 2-1 the last time these two sides met back in 2013, with Gonzalo Higuain and Ever Banega scoring for Argentina that day.
Italy's last win over Argentina came in the 1982 World Cup, with Marco Tardelli and Antonio Cabrini scoring the memorable goals over 30 years ago.
Argentina have named plenty of big hitters in their squad, to match the experience of Italy, with Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano, Angle Di Maria, Sergio Aguero and Higuain all named in the squad by Jorge Sampaoli.
Italy are also not short of big names in their squad, with Gigi Buffon (who has opted not to retire from the international scene), Leonardo Bonucci, Antonio Candreva and Ciro Immobile all set to start for the Italians.
Argentina v Italy Preview and Predictions
The failure of Italy to qualify for the World Cup was the biggest story of the play off round last November, with their loss to Sweden creating headlines across the globe.
They will be looking to make a statement against Argentina, that the future is bright for Italian football, but Argentina will be a very stubborn test for them, with Sampaoli's side heavily fancied to win the tournament in the summer.
The strike force of Messi, Aguero et al will give Italy real problems, despite their defensive strength, and the star quality for the South Americans should be enough to secure a win for them - priced at 10/11.
Even with Bonucci and Buffon in attendance, there should be goals in this game, and with Serie A leading scorer Immobile at the other end of the pitch for Italy, they will carry a genuine goal threat of their own.
A both teams to score bet looks like an exciting one for this tie, also priced at 11/10.
Argentina to win 2-1 at 15/2
Sampaoli will be eager to get his World Cup preparations up and running with a positive result against a fellow global power house, and with arguably the best forward line in international football all fit at the same time, neutrals at the Etihad Stadium could be in for a real treat.
Sergio Aguero to score first and Argentina to win at 17/1
If anyone knows what it is like to score at the Etihad Stadium, it is Sergio Aguero. He broke the Manchester City all time goal scoring record earlier this season, and is in fine form in the Premier League - scoring 21 league goals so far this season.
