December 05, 2017
Emirates Stadium - Europa League
Arsenal take on BATE Borisov on Thursday with the Gunners assured of a place in the Europa League's last 32 and BATE still in with a shout of qualifying.
The meeting between these two sides earlier on in this season's Europa League was their first ever meeting in competitive action.
Arsenal won 4-2 in Belarus, with goals from Rob Holding, Olivier Giroud and two from Theo Walcott.
Arsene Wenger has used the Europa League to shuffle his squad this season, playing a majority of young players mixed with some fringe first team squad members.
Defender Shkodran Mustafi is ruled out with a thigh injury, and he joins long term absentee Santi Cazorla on the sidelines.
The key man for BATE is likely to be striker Nikolai Signevich, their top scorer this season with six goals in the Belarusian league and two in the Europa League so far this season.
Despite failing to score against Arsenal earlier in the campaign, he has netted against Koln and Red Star Belgrade.
Arsenal v BATE Borisov Preview and Predictions
Arsenal have already sealed their passage to the next round, and finish as group leaders, regardless of their result against BATE on Thursday night.
Wenger will ring the changes, as he has done all season, following their defeat to Manchester United - but his young players have served him well in the tournament so far this season.
Despite having nothing left to play for, and BATE still having a chance of qualifying if they win and Red Star Belgrade and Koln draw, Arsenal will not want a slip up in front of their home fans and a home win is priced at 2/5.
Arsenal also have a fairly good goal return in Europe this season, scoring eight goals in their five games so far, and if they get their forward line to click against BATE, they should record a comfortable win - an over 2.5 goals bet is priced at 8/15.
Arsenal to win 3-1 at 10/1
Wenger will want to erase the United defeat from memory and the first step to that is a positive performance and win on Thursday night at home to BATE, even with a second string side, Arsenal should have more than enough to get past the limited Belarusian side.
Olivier Giroud to score first at 5/2
French international Giroud has been used regularly in the Europa League this season, and scoring twice in five appearances when has played. He is set to lead the line again in Thursday night, and he will also be using the Europa League as a way to improve his form and regain his spot in the first team.
