Arsenal v Leicester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 07, 2017
Emirates Stadium - Premier League
Arsenal begin their Premier League campaign at home against Leicester, after their shootout win over Chelsea in the Community Shield. It’s a great way for the new season to start, in front of the Friday night TV cameras.
Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 21 games against Leicester. You have to go back almost 23 years for the Foxes’ last success against the Gunners. A late Robert Huth own goal handed Arsene Wenger’s side the points at the Emirates last season.
Some of Arsenal’s biggest players are set to miss the season opener. Mesut Ozil didn’t play in the Community Shield victory after picking up a knock in training, while Aaron Ramsey has a calf problem. Alexis Sanchez wasn’t fit to play at Wembley either, and Friday’s game could come too soon for the Chilean.
Leicester are also likely to be without a number of key men. Danny Drinkwater’s a major doubt with a thigh strain, while strikers Islam Slimani and Kelechi Iheanacho are also struggling. Robert Huth’s out with an ankle injury, so new signing Harry Maguire should start in central defence.
Arsenal v Leicester City Preview and Predictions
Certain change seemed to be on the way at Arsenal towards the end of last season. This hasn’t proved to be the case though, with Wenger still at the helm and star players such as Ozil and Sanchez still on the books. Leicester have faced their own issues with wantaway Mahrez, but are expected to improve on the last campaign.
The Gunners have been buoyed by the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette, who looked sharp against Chelsea. The Frenchman makes his Premier League debut on Friday night, and will be a threat to Craig Shakespeare’s side. If Sanchez plays, Wenger will be looking for early cohesion from his new attacking trident.
The Leicester boss meanwhile will hope new man Iheanacho is fit to play. The Nigerian has a point to prove after leaving Manchester City, and a big game at the Emirates would be a great place to show what he can do. He may have to settle for a place on the bench for this one though.
Arsenal are unsurprisingly favourites with the bookmakers, priced at 4/9 in the betting. Leicester are decent value at 7/1 for the win, while the draw’s available at 4/1.
