Arsenal v Liverpool Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 18, 2017
Emirates Stadium - Premier League
We could be in for a seasonal treat in this festive Friday night fixture, as Arsenal welcome Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium. There’s usually plenty of goals between these two, so hopefully these Champions League hopefuls serve up a Christmas cracker.
Arsene Wenger’s side are seeking revenge after Liverpool dismantled them 4-0 at Anfield at the beginning of the season. The Merseysiders have won their last three against the Gunners, scoring 11 times in the process. Arsenal’s only victory against the Reds in their last seven attempts was a 4-1 success in April 2015.
Aaron Ramsey misses out for the hosts with a thigh injury that’s due to keep him out until early January. This means Jack Wilshere could be in line for another start, after completing 90 minutes for the second time in a week on Saturday. Shkodran Mustafi could return from a thigh problem of his own.
Jurgen Klopp continued his rotation policy by resting Sadio Mane against Bournemouth at the weekend, so he’s likely to return to the lineup for this one. With Emre Can returning from suspension, the Liverpool boss must decide whether to drop Philippe Coutinho deeper into the midfield to allow for Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah to both start.
Arsenal v Liverpool Preview and Predictions
This game pits fourth against fifth, as Arsenal and Liverpool look to establish a foothold in the Premier League’s top four. Both sides returned to winning ways at the weekend after drawing their two previous games, and will be desperate for a festive lift in this one.
Arsenal toiled at times in seeing off Newcastle last time out, but the game was illuminated by a stunning Mesut Ozil volley. Whether the German's upturn in form means he's staying or going, Gunners fans will hope that the playmaker can have a major influence on this fixture too. Wenger has returned to a back four in the last couple of games, perhaps in anticipation of matching up Liverpool’s setup on Friday.
The visitors are almost certain to go with their usual 4-3-3, and if Coutinho drops back then we could be in for an open game with both teams on the offensive. Both sides have conceded 20 goals so far this season and there’ll be lots of attacking talent on display. The result of this one could rest on defensive solidity, and which backline can stand up to the pace and trickery they’re sure to face.
The bookmakers are struggling to call this one, with Arsenal priced at 6/4. Liverpool are available at 7/4, while the draw’s 14/5.
Ozil to score and Arsenal to win 1-0 at 66/1
Back Ozil to be the match winner for the second time in a week as the German once again scores the only goal of the game.
Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 7/2
Or bet on the visitors to outscore their opponents as the Reds record their fourth straight victory over the Gunners.
