Arsenal v Manchester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
February 23, 2018
Wembley Stadium - Carabao Cup Final
Arsenal face Manchester City in Sunday's Carabao Cup Final, with both sides chasing their first piece of major silverware in 2017-18.
Manchester City have beaten Arsenal already this season, winning 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium back in November, thanks to goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
The last time these two faced each other at Wembley was in last season FA Cup final, with Arsenal the victors that day, with Alexis Sanchez the match winner for the Gunners that day,
Manchester City will be without defender Fabian Delph who starts a three game suspension following his FA Cup red card against Wigan. With Bernard Mendy still sidelined through injury, Brazilian full back Danilo could fill in.
Danilo's international teammate Gabriel Jesus is back in training, but he is unlikely to be offered more than a substitute role on Sunday.
Aaron Ramsey is an injury doubt for Arsenal as he continues to recover from a groin injury, and manager Arsene Wenger will give him until the last minute to prove his fitness.
Striker Alexandre Lacazette is already ruled out through injury, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang set to lead the Arsenal attack.
Arsenal v Manchester City Predictions and Preview
With Arsenal already out of the title race and the FA Cup, and with their top four hopes hanging by a thread, this competition represents their only chance of domestic silverware this season.
City are nailed on to win the Premier League title, but they crashed out of the FA Cup in midweek away at League One side Wigan. That defeat could be definitive as to what happens on Sunday, in that if Pep Guardiola can erase the memory of that defeat and the controversy surrounding it from his players minds that are likely to roll Arsenal over and win - priced at 8/13.
However Arsenal do have a slight hoodoo over Manchester City following their FA Cup final win, and the Gunners have won their last three big days at Wembley - they are 5/1 to win on Sunday.
The most likely outcome appears to be a tight game, with Arsenal looking to contain City and the most eye catching bet for that is a draw after 90 minutes and extra time, which is priced at 14/5.
Despite the attacking talent on display for both sides in this game, finals rarely turn into high scoring spectacles and both managers will be mindful of the need to approach the game correctly, with that in mind on under 2.5 goals bet is 29/20.
Sergio Aguero to score anytime at 10/11
Aguero is City's leading scorer this season with 29 goals in all competitions so far in 2017-18, and is in line to start on Sunday. Arsenal will likely target Aguero in an effort to stop him from scoring, but they do not have a great record of doing so with the Argentina striker scoring seven goals in his 12 appearances against the Gunners.
Arsenal to win in extra time 20/1
Wenger will be looking to draw inspiration from this last time his side faced City at Wembley, and despite their dominance this season, their is an underlying feeling that City were rattled by their loss to Wigan. Wenger has excellent pedigree in domestic cup competitions and his job for next season could be dependent on this game and the remainder of this campaign.
