Arsenal v Manchester United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
March 06, 2019
Emirates Stadium - Premier League
It may not be the title-deciding clash of yesteryear, but this game between Arsenal and Manchester United still carries huge significance. Both teams are scrapping for the top four and a place in next season’s Champions League.
United are unbeaten in their last four matches against Arsenal, winning three of those. That includes back-to-back 3-1 victories at the Emirates, in the FA Cup in January, and the league last season. The teams drew 2-2 at Old Trafford in December, when Arsenal twice failed to hold on to the lead.
Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding and ex-United player Danny Welbeck are all out for the long term for Arsenal. Unai Emery will also be without Lucas Torreria, who received a late red card in the north London derby last weekend for a wild lunge.
The injuries are really stacking up for the visitors at the moment, with nine players struggling for fitness ahead of the weekend. Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and former Gunner Alexis Sanchez are all out, while Antony Martial, Nemanja Matic, Antonio Valenica, Phil Jones and Matteo Darmian are all doubts.
Arsenal v Manchester United Preview and Predictions
Both teams are in European action in France in the run-up to this game, with Arsenal facing the easier fixture against Rennes. However, United’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain gives them an extra day to prepare for this weekend’s encounter.
Arsenal blew the chance to secure a huge victory over Tottenham last weekend, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s poor penalty cost his team the three points. Had he scored, the Gunners would’ve started this game ahead of United in fourth. Instead, the Red Devils are a point ahead of their London rivals.
With only eight games left this season after Sunday, this is huge for both sides. United come into the game with renewed confidence following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s start to life in charge at Old Trafford. The Reds are unbeaten in 12 league matches under the Norwegian, winning 10 of those, including all six away from home.
The Gunners still start this game as the favourites though, although the betting’s very tight. Arsenal are 13/10 to make it nine league wins in a row on home soil, while United are available at 11/5 to make it a hat-trick of victories at the Emirates. With little to choose between the two teams, a draw could be a solid prediction for this game, and it’s priced at 13/5.
Score draw at 7/2
Arsenal have been in excellent form at home recently, but United have been flawless on the road and beat Arsenal in the cup in January.
Over 3.5 goals at 17/10
With so much to play for, and both teams playing attacking football, this bet would’ve paid out in three of the last four meetings between the sides. The other game saw three goals, and was far from a dull affair.
