Arsenal v Newcastle United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
March 28, 2019
Emirates Stadium - Premier League
Arsenal could have the chance to move up into third place in the Premier League table as they take on Newcastle on Monday night. Tottenham are away to Liverpool over the weekend, which could see opportunity knocking for Unai Emery’s side.
Arsenal have won 11 of the last 12 meetings between the sides, including a 2-1 victory at St James’ Park earlier this season. The Gunners have won all six of their most recent home games against the Magpies, banging in 18 goals.
Aaron Ramsey is a doubt with a thigh injury, although he should be fit for this game. Granit Xhaka and Nacho Monreal are also expected to make it after injuries, but Lucas Torreira is suspended. Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding and Danny Welbeck are all injured.
Jamaal Lascelles is a doubt with a knee injury, while there are also question marks over Fabian Schar after he was knocked out on international duty for Switzerland. Sean Longstaff is out for the season after undergoing knee surgery, while Rob Elliot is also out.
Arsenal v Newcastle United Preview and Predictions
Considering their recent form and record against Newcastle, this game should be a home banker for Arsenal. The Gunners have won their last nine Premier League home games, while Newcastle have lost all of their five away matches against the ‘big six’ sides this season.
There’s likely to be a major carrot dangling in front of Arsenal on Monday, with Tottenham expected to drop more points at Anfield. The Gunners are unbeaten in their last five league games, only failing to win once away at Spurs. Even that could’ve been a victory had Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang not fluffed a late penalty.
Emery’s side are hitting form at the right time, and recorded an impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United on their last Premier League outing before the international break. Newcastle were also in solid form before the break, only losing one of their last six games.
The Magpies beat Manchester City in January, but have lost all of their other games against the ‘big six’ this season. With that in mind, the away win looks fanciful at 17/2. Arsenal are strong favourites to take the points, priced at 2/5, while the draw’s available at 4/1. That would be an excellent result for the visitors, as they look to maintain their seven-point gap to the relegation zone.
Arsenal to win to nil at 6/4
The Gunners have won their last two home games against Newcastle without conceding a goal, so this bet could be a good way of enhancing the odds on the home win.
Alexandre Lacazette to score first at 15/4
Nineteen of the Frenchman’s 26 Premier League goals for Arsenal have come at the Emirates - only Tony Adams has a higher ratio of home goals for the Gunners of all players who’ve scored 10 or more times for the club.
