Arsenal v Red Star Belgrade Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 30, 2017
Emirates Stadium - Europa League
Arsenal host Red Star Belgrade at the Emirates on Thursday, as the Gunners look to have a more comfortable evening compared to their trip to Serbia.
It took a stunning Olivier Giroud goal in the 85th minute for Arsenal to finally break down the Red Star defence when the teams met a couple of weeks ago. Before that, the clubs hadn’t faced each other since a 1978-79 UEFA Cup tie, which Red Star won 2-1 on aggregate.
After scoring Arsenal's equaliser against Swansea on Saturday, Said Kolasinac was substituted with just over 10 minutes to go with a hip problem so there's little chance of him featuring in this one. Danny Welbeck, Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers all remain on the treatment table, while the likes of Giroud, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott should all be given a start.
Milan Rodic is suspended for the visitors after the defender was sent off in the last game between the two sides. Red Star will be looking to match the effort they put into that impressive home performance against the Gunners, and replicate their impressive domestic form which has seen them win 13 out of 15 so far.
Arsenal v Red Star Belgrade Preview and Predictions
Despite Red Star’s dogged showing in the first meeting between the teams, it’s hard to see anything other than an Arsenal win in this return fixture. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the Gunners toil in front of the Emirates faithful, but it would be a massive shock if they don’t pick up the three points that would guarantee their progression from Group H.
With a Premier League title challenge looking way beyond the capabilities of his players, winning the Europa League is one of Arsene Wenger’s few opportunities for silverware this season. Success in the competition would also be a route back into the Champions League of course. With this in mind, and in spite of a few fringe players getting a runout, Arsenal are huge favourites in the betting at 4/11.
Red Star meanwhile are sitting pretty at the top of the Serbian SuperLiga, and this will be their primary route back into Europe’s premier club competition. The bookmakers are giving the visitors little chance of causing an upset, and you can back them as long as 44/5. If you think the game will end in a frustrating draw for the Gunners, that’s priced at 24/5.
Arsenal to win to nil at 7/5
Back Wenger’s men to keep a clean sheet as you improve your odds on a home win.
Giroud to score first and Arsenal to win 3-0 at 25/1
The Frenchman’s almost certain to start as the focal point of Arsenal’s attack. If you think the Gunners will go on to get a fourth without reply after Giroud opens the scoring, that’s priced at 40/1.
