Arsenal v Southampton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
February 20, 2019
Emirates Stadium - Premier League
Top four chasing Arsenal host Southampton this weekend, with Unai Emery's side looking to get back into the Champions League spots.
The Saints beat Arsenal 3-2 at home just before Christmas, with Danny Ings and Charlie Austin on target for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side. However they have not won away at Arsenal, in league action, since 1987 - in the Old First Division.
Arsenal will have Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Sokratis back in their match day squad, after the pair missed their defeat away at BATE Borisov through injury. However Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding and Danny Welbeck all remain long term absentees.
Hasenhuttl will make a late decision on Michael Obafemi, Stuart Armstrong and Mario Lemina after the all returned to training during the warm weather camp in Tenerife, but Ings is not yet back in action.
Arsenal v Southampton Predictions and Preview
The Gunners have won three of their last four Premier League games, with defeat to defending champions Manchester City the only negative against them in league action of late. Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 12 league games at the Emirates, with just one league defeat their in 2018-19 - again Pep Guardiola's side the team to beat them.
The Saints have stuttered in recent weeks, following a great start to life under Hasenhuttl, with no league wins in their last three matches. That run of results means they are still mired in relegation trouble, and they are just one point above the drop zone, and they are in real need of points in the coming weeks.
On home turf, Arsenal have been an almost virtual constant and they need to keep pace with Manchester United and Chelsea in the race for the Champions League - and a home win comes in at 2/5.
Southampton do carry a goal threat, despite their inconsistent form, and they have only failed to score in one of their 12 last games in all competitions. With that in mind, a BTTS bet is available for a tempting price of 4/5.
Arsenal to win 2-1 at 7/1
Emery's side must keep their Premier League momentum going in the next few months if they want to achieve their objectives and that means picking up three important points in this game. Southampton look a strong option to avoid the drop, but the points they need are likely to come from elsewhere.
Alexandre Lacazette to score first at 3/1
The French international is the man in form for Arsenal at the moment, and the former Lyon man has three goals in his last four Premier League appearances. He already has 10 league goals this season, and is on course to better his tally of 14 league goals of 2017-18.
