Arsenal v Tottenham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
November 15, 2017
Emirates Stadium - Premier League
It’s north London derby time on Saturday lunchtime, as Arsenal host fierce rivals Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium in what could be an explosive game. If either side has title aspirations, this is must-win game considering the current state of play in the Premier League.
After a period of relative Arsenal dominance, things have been very even in recent years. Over the last eight meetings between the clubs, there’s been two wins apiece and four draws. Dele Alli and Harry Kane scored the goals as Tottenham won the last encounter at White Hart Lane 2-0, while last season’s game at the Emirates ended 1-1.
Even though he was never likely to start the game, Olivier Giroud is a major doubt for the Gunners after picking up a thigh injury on international duty. This does limit Arsene Wenger’s options from the bench though, with the Frenchman often proving effective when coming on late. Shkodran Mustafi meanwhile is nearing a return, but Rob Holding remains sidelined.
The Spurs trio of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks which pulled out of the England squad for the recent friendlies against Germany and Brazil is expected to be fit for this crunch game. Mauricio Pochettino could be without goalkeepers Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm though, while there are doubts over defenders Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
Arsenal v Tottenham Preview and Predictions
There’s no escaping the fact that this is a massive game for Arsenal, even more so than for Tottenham. Defeat would mean the Gunners fall seven points behind their north London rivals, and if Manchester City win this weekend, Wenger’s side would be 15 points off the top of the Premier League table with a hugely inferior goal difference.
After signing a controversial contract extension in the summer, a title challenge that’s effectively over in the middle of November would be disastrous for Wenger. With the club’s two biggest names Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil running down their contracts, we’re not far away from full-on crisis mode at the Emirates. A win over their biggest rivals would be a major boost for the club though, and they’re priced at narrow 6/4 favourites for the derby.
Tottenham meanwhile are eight points behind City, and with the form that Pep Guardiola’s side are in, they can’t afford to fall any further off the pace. With a set of very winnable fixtures coming up after this game prior to a trip to the Etihad in December, a victory over their bitter rivals on Saturday would keep Spurs very much in the hunt. They’re priced at 2/1 for the win, while the draw’s available at 27/10.
Arsenal to win and both teams to score at 10/3
Back Wenger’s men to pick up a vital win, although they’ll struggle to keep the likes of Kane, Alli and Christian Eriksen at bay.
Tottenham to win 3-2 at 28/1
Back Spurs to pick up their first away win at Arsenal for seven years, as they match the scoreline of their last success in the process.
