Arsenal v West Ham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 21, 2018
Emirates Stadium - Premier League
Arsenal boss Unai Emery welcomes West Ham to the Emirates Stadium, hoping to collect his first points as Arsenal manager following a poor start to the season.
Arsenal are unbeaten in their last six league and cup meetings with West Ham, beating them 4-1 at home in the league last season - with goals from Nacho Monreal, Aaron Ramsey and two for Alexandre Lacazette.
West Ham's last win over their London rivals came back in 2015, at the Emirates.
Arsenal have injury concerns in defence, with Laurent Koscielny, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Saed Kolasinac and Carl Jenkinson all out injured. This means Emery will have to stick with a back four that has conceded five goals in the first two games of the season.
West Ham have no fresh injury worries, with long term absentees Andy Carroll, Winston Reid and Manuel Lanzini all still sidelined. However Manuel Pellegrini could make changes, with Pedro Obiang, Declan Rice and Aaron Cresswell likely to come in.
Arsenal v West Ham Preview and Preview and Predictions
Both sides have had a nightmare start to the season, with two losses each, placing both new managers in the back foot at a very early stage in the season. Emery saw his side picked apart by Manchester City on the opening weekend, before going down fighting against Chelsea last weekend.
West Ham were blown away by Liverpool on the first weekend, before surrendering a lead and losing at home to Bournemouth last weekend.
Those results have upped the stakes ahead of this derby game, and Emery knows he needs a big result, if he is relieve the mounting pressure he is finding himself under.
Arsenal are strong favourites, and they should have enough quality to sneak a win, priced at 4/11 - but West Ham's dire situation means they will not make it easy for them.
On the goal scoring front, both sides have really struggled, with Arsenal scoring two and West Ham just one, in the opening two games of the season. That means this is unlikely to be a thriller - and Arsenal may have to settle for a slender win - with a Gunners win and under 2.5 goals scored at 3/1.
Arsenal to win 1-0 at 9/1
The old '1-0 to the Arsenal' chant will be music to Emery's ears this weekend, if he can hear it on Saturday afternoon. Given the low confidence of his side following defeats to two of their biggest rivals, he will have to rally his players, and get a vital result - even if it does not come via the most attractive football.
Alexadre Lacazette to score first at 4/1
Lacazette has not started either game for Arsenal so far this season, as Emery looks to settle on his starting XI, but he has looked impressive off the bench. He should start this one, and his netted twice against West Ham last season, and he will want to get up and running for 2018-19.
