Arsenal v Manchester City Match Predicitions and Betting Tips
March 29, 2017
Sunday 2 April – Emirates Stadium – Premier League
With calls for Arsene Wenger to step down from Arsenal only getting stronger, victory against Pep Guardiola’s men is a necessity. Manchester City are also desperately need all three points to keep up with Tottenham in the race for second.
Arsenal vs Manchester City has basically become what Chelsea vs Liverpool was last decade, as they have produced several entertaining, high scoring affairs. City won their home game this season 2-1, but the away side have had the better of it, going seven games unbeaten between December’s loss and the memorable 6-3 in December 2012.
Santi Cazorla, Petr Cech and Lucas Perez are still out for the Gunners, so David Ospina will start in goal and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will likely continue in his new central role. As Wenger will struggle to dominate possession, expect a shift to a more direct, counter-attacking gameplan.
Manchester City will continue to miss Ilkay Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus, but will have become accustomed to life without the two. Otherwise Guardiola has a full squad to pick from, so his favoured 4-1-4-1 should remain intact, with the revitalised Yaya Toure pulling the strings.
Arsenal vs Manchester City Preview and Predictions
The Gunners have gained the unwanted habit of embarrassing themselves against quality opposition, and bookmakers have taken notice by offering odds of 11/5 for Arsenal victory, making away side City favourites at 11/8, and a draw is 13/5.
As Wenger’s men look set on missing out on Champions League for the first time this century, desperation will take hold and risks will be taken, but they could find themselves at a cross road as star man Alexis Sanchez is their best hope at beating Manchester United and Liverpool to fourth, but is also known to be planning his exit in the summer.
Manchester City have pulled themselves out of their poor run of form, Champions League qualifications seems a certainty, beating Spurs to second place is all Guardiola has left to make his maiden season a success.
Sergio Aguero’s poor scoring record against teams outside of the bottom half hasn’t stopped bookmakers from making him favourite to open the scoring at odds of 4/1, with Sanchez close behind at 5/1. Expect the home side to kick-off with all guns blazing, but Manchester City to have too much and come out on top.
Leroy Sane to score first at 9/1
The young German has been Guardiola’s best signing and is quickly becoming City’s most important player. As Kieran Gibbs is looking nailed on to start, the former Schalke man should have a field day.
Man City to win by two goals at 6/1
Pep Guardiola’s resume doesn’t include tense Champions League battles, but he’s won more than enough El Clasicos to know that one goal is never enough.
