Aston Villa v Everton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 20, 2019
Villa Park - Premier League
Winless Aston Villa go in search of their first victory on their return to the Premier League as they welcome Everton to Villa Park on Friday night. The Toffees are unbeaten after picking up four points in their opening two matches of the season.
Everton won both meetings between the teams the last time Villa were in the top flight during the 2015/16 campaign. The Toffees eased to a 4-0 victory at Goodison Park before winning 3-1 in the return, although Villa did win 3-2 in the meeting before on home soil. That’s the Villans’ only victory in their last 11 attempts against Everton, with four draws in that run.
Dean Smith is set to be without three players for this game. Jonathan Kodjia sprained his ankle in Villa’s season opener and misses out, while James Chester and Kortney Hause are both injured. Tom Heaton will keep his place in goal despite a poor challenge to concede a first-minute penalty against Bournemouth at the weekend.
Moise Kean is having to wait for his full Everton debut, but the Italian youngster looked promising off the bench again on Saturday. Dominic Calvert-Lewin could keep his place this weekend, while Morgan Schneiderlin is back in contention after suspension. Fabian Delph, Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines are all injury concerns for Marco Silva’s side.
Aston Villa v Everton Preview and Predictions
After splashing the cash over the summer, it was always going to take some time for Aston Villa’s new players to gel. The Villans need to start getting some points on the board soon though, so they could do without a tough game against an Everton side yet to concede a goal in their first two matches of the new campaign.
The Toffees have made a solid start after their 1-0 victory over Watford followed a draw away to Crystal Palace. They’ve not been prolific in front of goal since the end of last season, but Bernard’s early goal was enough to claim the spoils at the weekend.
That could give Villa some hope ahead of this Friday night clash, although Smith’s side have conceded five goals in their opening two fixtures. Assistant John Terry needs to get his team’s defence in shape, but the Villans have at least hit the back of the net themselves on both their outings so far.
That particular run could come to an end in this match though, with Everton keeping six clean sheets in a row going back to their pre-season fixtures. The visitors are the 5/4 favourites to pick up another win under the lights and in front of the TV cameras, while Villa are 5/2 and the draw is priced at 13/5.
Everton to win to nil at 17/5
The Toffees have been impressive at the back recently, and they’ve got plenty of options in the final third to force the result late on if necessary.
Aston Villa to win and BTTS at 5/1
On the other hand, if you fancy Villa to pick up their first win of the season, they may need to score at least twice in light of their leaky back line.
