BATE Borisov v Arsenal Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 26, 2017
Borisov Arena - Europa League
Arsene Wenger takes his men to Belarus on Thursday, as Arsenal face BATE Borisov in the Europa League at the Borisov Arena. After that dramatic night against Koln in their opening Group H fixture, the Gunners are hoping for a calmer night’s work this time round.
This will be the first meeting between the two sides. Arsenal have shown improvement in their form in recent games, while BATE have been inconsistent of late, despite their stranglehold on the Belarusian Premier League - they’ve won the competition for the last 11 seasons in a row.
Alyaksandr Yermakovich has a healthy squad to choose from as he looks to extend BATE’s unbeaten European run at home. They’ve gone seven without defeat at the Borisov Arena, with Barcelona the last team to claim a victory there. Mikhail Gordeichuk will provide the hosts’ main goal threat, comfortably sitting top of the Belarusian goalscoring charts at present.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Wenger decides to start with Alexis Sanchez once again, as the Chilean’s had to make do with appearances in the League Cup and Europa League to regain his fitness. With Danny Welbeck picking up another injury, Olivier Giroud’s in line for a start in his continued supporting role.
BATE Borisov v Arsenal Preview and Predictions
Despite their decent home European form and tight grip on things domestically, BATE go into this game as huge underdogs. Although Wenger has claimed he doesn’t view this competition as a passage into next season’s Champions League, there’s no doubt that the Frenchman’s taking the Europa League seriously.
With such strength across the Premier League, he’d be a fool not to, especially after seeing Manchester United’s success last season. Considering their small stature, BATE have a decent enough record in Europe, winning 32 of their 90 Champions League fixtures. They could prove to be stubborn opposition, but there should be enough quality in whichever team Arsenal put out.
The Gunners have rallied in recent weeks after their mauling at the hands of Liverpool, and they’ll look to make it two wins out of two in Group H. Securing safe passage to the knockout phase as early as possible will give Wenger the chance to give some of his players a rest, so there’ll be no surprise to see a strong team.
Arsenal start the game as 9/20 favourites in the betting, while BATE are available at 7/1. If you think the Hungarian outfit can hold their more illustrious rivals to a draw, that’s 7/2.
Arsenal to win to nil at 31/20
Back the Gunners to see off BATE with a comfortable enough performance as they keep a clean sheet.
BATE to win 1-0 at 25/1
If the hosts can cause a huge upset, it’s likely to be by a tight margin. This scoreline’s a good way to more than triple your odds on a home win.
