Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
November 20, 2017
Westfalenstadion - Champions League
Tottenham travel to Germany to face Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund needing just a point to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
The most recent meeting between these two sides came in the 'home' leg of this season's group stages, with Tottenham recording a comfortable 3-1 at Wembley Stadium - courtesy of two goals from Harry Kane and one from Heung Son-Min.
Dortmund fared far better in the knockout stages of the 2015-16 Europa League, beating Mauricio Pochettino's side home and away, and eliminating them from the competition.
Tottenham will be without key defender Toby Alderweireld, with the Belgium international set to miss the reset of Spurs' games in this calendar year through a hamstring injury.
Midfielder Victor Wanyama is still sidelined with a knee injury, but Harry Winnks has been passed fit and could come in midfield having been rested for the weekend defeat to rivals Arsenal.
Dortmund star man Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang is back in the Dortmund squad following a domestic ban, but manager Peter Bosz does have a number of other selection issues ahead of Tottenham's visit.
Defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who was withdrawn during their Bundesliga defeat to Stuttgart on Friday is out with a rib injury and USA international Christian Pulisic faces a late fitness test on a thigh problem.
Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham Preview and Predictions
Dortmund are in a rotten run of recent form, and their Champions League campaign could already be over regardless of their result against Tottenham. No win so far in Europe this season means that the German side need to win both of their remaining games, and hope for favourable results elsewhere to secure a place in the last 16.
One win in their last eight games in all competitions makes for grim reading for Dortmund ahead of this crunch game, and despite needing a win to secure a place in the next round, that looks unlikely against a Tottenham side that has performed well in Europe this season.
With their place in the next round virtually assured, Pochettino may even rest some of his first team stars ahead of the weekend's game against West Brom, and this may make a win diffcult for them also.
This most sensible outcome from this game looks to be a draw, which is priced at 11/4, but would see Dortmund out of the competition.
Despite their good form of late, Tottenham have not been flying on the goal scoring front, netting just four goals in their last four games and Dortmund managing just one more goal in the same, an under 2.5 goals bet looks to be a good option - priced at 6/5.
A 1-1 draw at 6/1
Tottenham only need a point to secure a place in the last 16, with top spot likely to be decided on the last match of the group. Dortmund are really struggling of late, both defensively and in attack, and they could see the Champions League journey come to a sudden stop this week.
Harry Kane to score first at 7/2
Kane did not look fully fit in the North London derby, but he should be ready and raring to go for the trip to Germany on Tuesday night. 13 goals in all competitions so far this season, including five in Europe, have demonstrated why he is one of the most deadly finishers around at the minute.
