Bournemouth v Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
January 28, 2019
Vitality Stadium - Premier League
Chelsea resume their challenge for a place in the top four of the Premier League after a successful week in the domestic cup competitions. The Blues travel down to the south coast to face a Bournemouth side who should be fresh after a weekend off.
Chelsea knocked Bournemouth out of the League Cup earlier this season, on their way to the final where they’ll play Manchester City next month. Maurizio Sarri’s side have also beaten the Cherries at Stamford Bridge in the league this season, although Bournemouth recorded a hugely impressive 3-0 win in west London last season.
Dominic Solanke misses out on this game with a hamstring injury, as he looks forward to making his Bournemouth debut next month following his move from Liverpool. Lewis Cook and Simon Francis are both long-term absentees with serious knee injuries.
The visitors have no injuries or suspensions to worry about coming into this midweek fixture. The name on everyone’s lips is Callum Hudson-Odoi, and the Chelsea youngster looks set to stay at the club for the time being in the face of interest from Bayern Munich. Surely Sarri has to give him his first Premier League start at some point.
Bournemouth v Chelsea Preview and Predictions
Since Bournemouth were promoted to the top flight in 2015, Chelsea have won on all three of their visits to the Vitality Stadium. However, the Cherries have beaten their more illustrious opponents twice at Stamford Bridge in that time, and are capable of playing some excellent football.
Eddie Howe’s side have showed that on a number of occasions this season, although they did hit a bump in recent weeks, failing to win in five games before their victory over West Ham in their last match, losing four of those. Even so, Bournemouth have quality in the final third, which should cause problems for a Chelsea defence that hasn’t always looked very solid this season.
The Cherries have also had a lot more time to prepare for this game, which gives them an advantage. Chelsea have played twice since Bournemouth last took to the field, knocking Tottenham out of the League Cup and Sheffield Wednesday out of the FA Cup. Sarri was able to rotate at the weekend, but the congested schedule won’t help him.
The Blues are still favourites in the betting though, priced at 4/6. Bournemouth could be worth a look at 9/2 considering their extra time on the training pitches this week. The draw meanwhile is available at 9/2.
Bournemouth to win and BTTS at 8/1
Chelsea could have some tired legs in this midweek game after their cup exertions, so this bet may end up representing excellent value.
Callum Wilson to score first at 7/1
The Cherries striker was linked with a move to Chelsea in this transfer window, and he could come out with a point to prove after the Blues moved for Gonzalo Higuain instead. The Argentine is 17/4 to score first.
