Bournemouth v Manchester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 22, 2017
Vitality Stadium - Premier League
It doesn’t get much tougher for Bournemouth as they look to avoid three straight defeats at the start of the new season against Manchester City. After their dramatic draw against Everton on Monday, Pep Guardiola’s side are the visitors to the Vitality Stadium.
Bournemouth have never beaten Manchester City coming into this one. Although that doesn’t bode well, there’s only actually ever been eight meetings between the sides. City won this fixture 2-0 last season, and the corresponding game at the Etihad finished 4-0 to the Blues.
After suffering a hamstring injury on the opening day of the season, Cherries captain Simon Francis continues to miss out. The defender’s not expected back for a few weeks, which is a similar timeframe to Junior Stanislas who injured his groin in pre season.
Manchester City will be without Kyle Walker after the wing back was sent off against Everton. Guardiola will likely call on former Real Madrid man Danilo who came on in the second half on Monday. City fans are still waiting for Ilkay Gundogan to make his return from knee surgery, although new signing Benjamin Mendy is nearing fitness.
Bournemouth v Manchester City Preview and Predictions
Although it’s hardly panic stations, two very winnable games have come and gone for Bournemouth. The last thing Eddie Howe needed was the favourites for the Premier League title to show up. Not only this, but the Cherries must play at Birmingham City in the EFL Cup on Tuesday too. For their part, City will be keen to get back to winning ways after the slip against Everton.
It’s too early to say the pressure’s on Eddie Howe, but we all know how quickly Premier League managers get plunged into the mire. No points after three games is not an ideal start by any stretch, and it’s Arsenal away for Bournemouth next. The hosts start as heavy underdogs in the betting, and you can back them as long as 21/2.
City meanwhile go into the EFL Cup in the third round, so there’s no distractions ahead of this game. They were severely blunted by Walker’s sending off against the Toffees, but are full of goal threat. In four Premier League games against Bournemouth, the Blues have scored 15 times, conceding just twice. The bookmakers have them at 7/20 for this one, while the draw’s available at 5/1.
Aguero to score first and City to win 4-0 at 35/1
Back City to continue their great form against Bournemouth and heap more misery on Howe’s men.
Bournemouth to win to nil at 22/1
Or bet on the Cherries to kick-start their season by keeping City’s attack at bay on the way to victory.
