Bournemouth v Newcastle Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
February 20, 2018
Vitality Stadium - Premier League
Newcastle travel to Bournemouth on Saturday, looking to build on their impressive Premier League victory over Manchester United. The Cherries lost their first league game of 2018 last week, and will be looking to bounce back this weekend.
Conversely, the two sides have only won away when facing each other, with Bournemouth taking the reverse fixture at St James' Park. Just one goal, scored by Steve Cook in extra time did the job for Eddie Howe's men, despite a combined 32 shots during the match.
Jermaine Defoe is approaching a return from the broken ankle he sustained back in December, but won't be fit to start this weekend. Tyrone Mings also remains out, having suffered a set-back on the back injury that has seen him out since the beginning of the season.
Rafa Benitez has declared that Islam Slimani will be fit to play on Saturday, having missed the game against Manchester United, with Ciaran Clarke also expected to return. Jesus Gamez will remain on the sideline however, having suffered an ankle injury in November.
Bournemouth v Newcastle Preview and Predictions
Both Bournemouth and Newcastle looked like relegation candidates by the end of December, with the two sides going nine games without a win during the festive month.
However, in a remarkable turnaround, Howe and Benitez have seen their teams lose just once in the league since the turn of the year, storming up the Premier League table. Both sides have also enjoyed surprise victories, with the Cherries overcoming Chelsea and Arsenal in recent weeks.
The south coast side have seemingly overcome their goalscoring problem, helped by Callum Wilson finding his shooting boots and contributing four goals and two assists to Bournemouth's revival. The forward is 6/4 to score anytime against Newcastle.
Likewise, the Magpies have seen a change in their fortunates, as despite perhaps drawing more than they would like, they have only lost to Manchester City and Chelsea in all competitions this calendar year. Their recent win over Man U will install confidence in the side, that is still searching for a consistent goalscorer.
This weekend's match-up pits two relatively even sides against one another which should make for a good contest.
Islam Slimani is 5/2 to score anytime for Newcastle
The on-loan Leicester man was rested against United and will be fit and raring to go this weekend.
A 1-1 draw is 6/1
The sides are separated by just three points in the league, and there shouldn't be much difference between them on the pitch either.
