Bournemouth v Southampton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
November 30, 2017
Vitality Stadium - Premier League
It's time for the south coast derby on Sunday afternoon, as Bournemouth and Southampton face off at the Vitality Stadium. Both teams are coming into this game on the back of midweek disappointment.
Despite their close geographical proximity, the two clubs haven’t played each other all too many times down the years. Southampton hold the edge over recent meetings, winning six of the last eight games between the sides. Last season, the Saints won 3-1 at the Vitality before the teams played out a 0-0 draw in the return fixture.
Bournemouth are hopeful that Junior Stanislas is able to return from injury, although he faces a late fitness test to make Saturday’s game. Tyrone Mings, Brad Smith and Adam Federici all remain on the sidelines for the Cherries, while Eddie Howe will have to choose between Josh King, Callum Wilson, Jermain Defoe and Benik Afobe up front.
The visitors meanwhile have doubts over Matt Targett and Cedric Soares, although both players could be passed fit with a late test. After dropping to the bench against Manchester City on Wednesday, Charlie Austin could return to the starting XI for this one.
Bournemouth v Southampton Preview and Predictions
There’s much more than local pride at stake in this encounter. Bournemouth need to put on a good showing for their fans after losing at home against Burnley in midweek, while Southhampton must put the disappointment of conceding late on at the Etihad behind them.
The Cherries have done well to haul themselves up the table after their dreadful start. However there are plenty of decent sides below them, so they need to get some decent points on the board over the winter period. A win over their south coast rivals would be a good place to start, although the hosts start as underdogs for this one. Howe’s side are priced at 37/19 in the betting for the victory.
Southampton go into the game knowing that defeat would see Bournemouth leapfrog them in the Premier League table. It could also drag them down towards the relegation zone depending on how other results go. For this reason, we can expect a more attacking lineup from Mauricio Pellegrino than the one that almost claimed a point at runaway leaders City. The Saints are available at 7/4 for the win, while the draw’s priced at 23/10.
Southampton to win 3-1 at 25/1
Back the Saints to repeat the result they got at the Vitality last season, as the pressure starts to mount on Bournemouth boss Howe once again.
Callum Wilson to score first at 11/2
The striker’s looked sharp since his return to full fitness, and he’s likely to get another chance to start up top for the Cherries.
