Brighton & Hove Albion v Manchester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 08, 2017
AMEX Stadium - Premier League
Brighton could not have asked for a tougher test on their maiden Premier League voyage, meeting Pep Guardiola's Manchester City on the opening day.
Ironically Brighton actually have a very good record over Manchester City, despite never meeting in Premier League action. Their last meeting, in the League Cup in 2008, ended in a 2-2 draw, with Brighton winning on penalties.
Manchester City's last win over The Seagulls came way back in 1988, in the old Division Two.
Both sides have come through pre-season relatively unscathed, with just two players absent through injury for the visitors.
New signing Bernard Mendy is likely ruled out with a thigh strain that he picked up in training, however Guardiola will give his new star left back every opportunity to prove his fitness.
German International Ilkay Gundogan is still out following a serious knee injury last season, and is expected to be back in action in September.
City's other summer signings Bernardo Silva, Ederson Moraes, Kyle Walker and Danilo are all included in the squad.
Brighton's only absentee is striker Sam Baldock, who is out due to a long term calf injury.
The hosts could hand competitive debuts to summer signings Pascal Gross, Matthew Ryan, Mathias Normann and Markus Suttner.
Brighton & Hove Albion Preview and Predictions
A visit from Manchester City is certainly a baptism of fire for Brighton, with the defence expected to be given a through examination of their Premier League credentials on Saturday.
The Blues form in pre-season will have also done little to ease Brighton's nerves, with Guardiola's side comfortably beating West Ham, Tottenham and Real Madrid.
Brighton on the other hand, started their pre-season strongly by beating Fortuna Dusseldorf, Crawley Town and Southend United, before ending with draws against Norwich City and Girona and a defeat to Atletico Madrid.
Given their attacking power, City should win comfortably, and an away win is priced accordingly to this at 1/3. They will look to impose themselves from the start, and City to lead at half time and full time is priced at 10/11.
Manchester City to win 3-0 at 15/2
With the likes of Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva and Raheem Sterling on display for the visitors, Brighton's focus will be on keeping the score down.
Raheem Sterling to score anytime at 2/1
Sterling has been in excellent pre-season form, scoring three goals in his last three games for Manchester City.
