Brighton v Arsenal Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
March 02, 2018
Amex Stadium - Premier League
Arsenal face Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Sunday, with the Gunners supporters’ attitude towards Arsene Wenger turning as frosty as the weather. The Seagulls are in a good position at the moment, although a win here would do wonders for their Premier League survival hopes.
Nacho Monreal and Alex Iwobi got the goals for Arsenal in a 2-0 win at the Emirates earlier this season. Aside from that, the only other meetings between the teams in recent years were in the FA Cup in 2013 and 2015, both of which ending as 3-2 away wins for the Gunners.
Seagulls boss Chris Hughton continues to be without Steve Sidwell, while Izzy Brown is out for the season after a cruciate injury. The manager’s only other concern is Jiri Skalak, who misses this game with an ankle problem.
Sead Kolasinac is expected to start for Arsenal again in the absence of Nacho Monreal, while Alexandre Lacazette is also out. Wenger could welcome back Jack Wilshere though, after the midfielder missed Thursday’s defeat against Manchester City.
Brighton v Arsenal Preview and Predictions
The half-empty Emirates on Thursday night was a damning verdict of Arsenal’s struggles. Some may point to the adverse weather as the reason, but the away end was full and the City fans had to travel all the way from Manchester. Wenger must try to raise his players, whereas Brighton will look to take advantage of the visitors’ troubles.
The Seagulls are currently 12th in the Premier League table, four points above the relegation zone. With 10 games left, victory on Sunday would be a huge result as they look to secure top flight football next season. A number of other teams in the bottom half face tricky fixtures or play each other this weekend, so Brighton can take a major step towards survival.
The hosts are 7/2 for the win, while Arsenal are available at 10/11. The Gunners have come in for stinging criticism from all angles after their pair of insipid defeats against City, and Wenger’s side are now 10 points behind rivals Tottenham who occupy the final Champions League place. With just one win in their last four games, Arsenal’s season is falling apart, and even a draw - which is priced at 3/1 - wouldn’t do much for their prospects.
Glenn Murray to score and Brighton to win at 11/2
Back the Seagulls to heap the misery on Wenger and his team, with top scorer Murray getting his name on the scoresheet in a home victory.
Arsenal to win and both teams to score at 11/4
Or bet on the Gunners to finally give their fans something to cheer about, as they fight back with a win despite their leaky defence.
