Brighton v Newcastle United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 20, 2017
Amex Stadium - Premier League
Last season’s automatically promoted teams are at opposite ends of the Premier League table, Brighton struggling level on points with third-bottom Everton while Newcastle are fourth top after three wins in a row and bursting with confidence.
Late goals helped Newcastle win a key promotion duel at Brighton 2-1 in March before the Magpies stole the title on the final day as Brighton stumbled after guaranteeing themselves promotion. United did the double last season but Albion had won the previous three meetings.
Goalkeeper Tim Krul is on loan to Brighton from Newcastle and therefore cannot be considered for selection against his parent club after debuting with a clean sheet over 90 minutes in midweek, albeit he was beaten in extra time at Bournemouth.
Brighton’s record signing Jose Izquierdo was given an opportunity in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday but having missed a great chance probably hasn’t done his prospects of a start any good.
Aleksandar Mitrovic remains suspended for Newcastle who also continue to be without defender Paul Dummett through injury. Already Newcastle have an eye on the card count with both Isaac Hayden and Matt Ritchie just a couple of cautions away from suspension.
Brighton v Newcastle United Preview and Predictions
Brighton are 7/4 to win with Newcastle 2/1 and the odds on a draw 11/5.
Up against the club where he won the Championship with more points than Rafa Benitez managed last season, Chris Hughton’s Brighton are looking to make it three wins in a row at the Amex Stadium. Despite defeats at near neighbours Bournemouth in league and cup this week, Brighton did in their last home game 3-1 against West Brom to back up a Carabao Cup win against Barnet so they have rediscovered the winning feeling at home at least.
After three games Newcastle had only tasted defeat, twice in the league without scoring and at home in the cup to Championship Forest. Since then The Magpies have soared after wins without conceding at home to West Ham and away to Swansea before a hard fought home win over Stoke, edged 2-1. Manager Benitez missed the win at Swansea through ill health but will be at Brighton looking to continue Newcastle’s fine form.
Newcastle have confirmed talks over a new contract for defender Jamaal Lascelles who has scored key goals in the last two games. If he scores again hey need to sort those talks before the price goes up. If you fancy Lascelles to score again he is 25/1 for the first goal and 12/1 to score anytime.
Ayoze Perez to open the scoring at 17/2
Yet to score this season, perez has missed a few chances but is bound to score if he keeps arriving in the right place at the right time so cash in on good odds.
Go for 1-1 at 11/2
Brighton have done well at home lately while in form Newcastle have the quality to restrict them. 1-1 is a likely outcome with attractive odds.
