Burnley v Manchester City Predictions, Betting tips and Previews
April 25, 2019
Turf Moor - Premier League
Manchester City travel to Burnley this weekend, coming off the back of a dominant derby win against Manchester United on Wednesday. The Clarets may not offer as much of a threat going forwards, but could cause a problem with a resolute defence.
Burnley will hope to avoid a repeat of the reverse fixture, which City won 5-0 with each goal scored by a different player.
Sean Dyche is likely to field a similar side to that which played Chelsea on Monday, with Peter Crouch, Aaron Lennon and Steven Defour side-lined. Phil Bardsley is also a doubt so Matthew Lowton will continue on the flank.
Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, is expected to make a number of changes, with Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho both picking up knocks and unlikely to be risked. As a result, Bernardo Silva is expected to fulfil a midfield role, with Leroy Sane stepping in.
Burnley v Manchester City Predicitons and Previews
Burnley sit nine points clear of the relegation zone with three games to go, meaning they need just a point to secure survival. Unfortunately for Sean Dyche's side, they are highly unlikely to do so against Sunday's opponents, Manchester City.
The Clarets earned a draw against Chelsea on Monday night, despite the Blues taking the lead twice. Ashley Barnes and Jeff Hendrick scored the goals to boost Burnley's survival prospects, and performances of both will be vital in Burnley's chances against Manchester City. Hendrick in particular will have a job tracking the likes of Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling, but will still be expected to carry the ball on the counter-attack.
Likewise, Ashley Barnes' predominant role will be defensive, and the forward is just 9/2 to score on Sunday. Even so, Barnes and striker-partner Chris Wood have the physical attributes to cause a problem for Guardiola's centre-backs, with Vincent Kompany likely to be rested.
City are unlikely to be overly concerned about their defensive solidity, as the front line has been lethal in recent weeks. Against Manchester United in the week they were able to carve their opponents to pieces in the second half, despite neither Raheem Sterling nor Sergio Aguero getting on the goal-sheet.
The two strikers are in phenomenal form and their ingenuity should be able to unlock Burnley's back line. However, the Clarets showed against Chelsea that they are able to shut up shop effectively, and may cause more of a problem for the leaders than expected.
Sergio Aguero to score anytime at 7/10
The Argentine striker has been unstoppable this season and should cause problems for Burnley.
Over 3.5 goals scored at 4/5
Despite Burnley's resolute defence, City should carve them apart at will.
