Burnley v Manchester United Predictions and Betting Tips
April 18, 2017
Sunday April 23 – Turf Moor – Premier League
Burnley host Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, with the Red Devils still very much in the hunt for a top four spot this season.
Burnley have proved to be tough opponent for their North West neighbours in recent seasons, with two of the last three meetings finishing 0-0. United have not won at Turf Moor since 2002.
Sean Dyche has two main injury headaches ahead of United’s visit, with striker Sam Vokes and midfielder Scott Arfield both struggling with injuries. Vokes is more likely to be fit, and recover from a tight hamstring, to lead the Clarets attack. Arfield may miss out with a knee problem, with Andre Gray a contender to replace him, or Robbie Brady could continue on the left of midfield.
United defensive pair Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are still weeks away from a return from injury. Spain international Juan Mata has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a groin injury.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic should return to the starting XI for United, with either Marcus Rashford or Jesse Lingard making way for the Swede.
Burnley v Manchester United Preview and Predictions
Burnley have essentially secured their Premier League status for next season, and their excellent home record will make life difficult for United. Indeed, Dyche’s side have only lost four times in front of their own fans, and took points off Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester City earlier in the season.
United could qualify for next season’s Champions League by winning by Europa League, but will still be hoping to secure their place via the league. Last weekend’s win at home to Chelsea will have boosted United’s confidence, and they have not lost in the Premier League since October 2016. They go to Burnley four points short of Manchester City, but still have a game in hand on Pep Guardiola’s side.
United should edge this one, with an away win priced at 8/15 and an Over 2.5 goals bet at 11/10, a particularly good option given the firepower on display.
Manchester United to win 3-0 at 10/1
United need a win to keep their European quest on track, and the pace and quality of their attack will cause Burnley some real problems, despite their fine home record.
Ibrahimovic to score first at 11/4
Ibrahimovic is United’s top scorer this season, with 17 Premier League goals, a threat in the air and on the ground, he will also be fresh having sat out the win over Chelsea.
