Burnley v West Ham United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 27, 2018
Turf Moor - Premier League
Burnley are looking to recover from a hugely disappointing Boxing Day defeat as they host West Ham at Turf Moor on Sunday. The Clarets were stuffed 5-1 by Everton in front of their home fans, and this could be another difficult afternoon against a Hammers side who’ve found their form in recent weeks.
West Ham put four past Burnley at the London Stadium earlier in the campaign, winning 4-2 last month. That avenged their 3-0 defeat at home to Burnley last season, while the teams drew 1-1 at Turf Moor last October. Before that, the Irons won five in a row against the Clarets.
Steven Defour is nearing a return to action, but this game could come too early for the midfielder. Robbie Brady is a doubt with a knock, while Stephen Ward and Aaron Lennon are both sidelined at the moment with knee injuries.
We all know about West Ham’s injury troubles. Manuel Pellegrini’s current list includes the likes of Jack Wilshere, Manuel Lanzini, Andriy Yarmolenko, Carlos Sanchez and Winston Reid. Forwards Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez are both doubts for this game too.
Burnley v West Ham United Preview and Predictions
Burnley are in free fall at the moment, and they’re desperate for a result here. They owe their home supporters a performance after a meek Boxing Day surrender, which leaves them in the relegation zone and three points adrift of safety. West Ham meanwhile are looking up and eyeing a potential European place come the end of the season.
The hosts are 12/5 for the win, which would bring some much needed festive cheer to this part of Lancashire. The Clarets only have 12 points to their name after the first half of the season, and they’re headed for the Championship unless things improve soon. They have the perfect man to get them out of trouble in Sean Dyche, but surely the manager’s position will come under scrutiny if results continue to slide so dramatically.
West Ham are 33/25 to take all three points from this game, after their four-match winning run was halted at home to Watford just before Christmas. That result was a shock considering the way the Hammers had played prior to that, and Pellegrini’s side are never too far away from an excellent performance. Considering their far superior form this season, the visitors would surely see a draw as two points dropped, and it’s priced at 5/2 in the betting.
Burnley to win and under 2.5 goals at 6/1
Back Sean Dyche to quickly sort out his leaky defence as Burnley bounce back from a humiliating result on Boxing Day and deliver a massive victory.
West Ham to win and over 2.5 goals at 13/5
Or bet on the Hammers to pile the misery onto their hosts, as they condemn the Clarets to their 14th defeat in 20 games.
