Cardiff City v Tottenham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 30, 2018
Cardiff City Stadium - Premier League
South Wales brings in the new year with Tottenham’s visit to the Cardiff City Stadium to take on Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds. The hosts come into the game full of the joys of spring after their late winner at the weekend, while it must feel like the depths of winter for Mauricio Pochettino after his team threw away a lead at home to Wolves.
Tottenham have won the last three meetings between the teams 1-0, including at Wembley in October. The clubs were last in the same division when Cardiff were in the top flight in 2013-14, and hadn’t played each other before that since a 2007 FA Cup tie which Spurs won in a replay.
Kenneth Zohore, Jazz Richards and Danny Ward all miss out on this New Year’s Day fixture, with the trio all recovering from injury. Apart from that, Warnock has picked up no new injury problems over the busy festive period.
Pochettino still has a lengthy injury list, which includes the likes of Eric Dier, Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele. Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen are both out too, although Serge Aurier is fit to provide back-up for Kieran Trippier.
Cardiff City v Tottenham Preview and Predictions
These two teams are approaching this game with different mindsets. Cardiff are on a high after snatching victory away to Leicester at the death, while Wolves upset the odds late on at Tottenham. That could have a bearing on how this New Year’s Day encounter pans out.
Victor Camarasa scored an absolute pearler to hand Cardiff the points at the King Power, which followed on from a decent point away to Crystal Palace on Boxing Day. This is a chance to go three unbeaten after getting thrashed by Manchester United just before Christmas, and the Bluebirds are 13/2 to pick up a massive three points here.
Tottenham meanwhile saw Liverpool move nine points clear of them after the weekend’s action. Spurs were leading Wolves by a goal to nil with 20 minutes left at Wembley on Saturday, but fell to a surprising 3-1 defeat. Tired legs could be blamed after a punishing schedule of three games in six days, but Spurs can’t use that as an excuse in this one.
Title aspirations will quickly vanish if they drop more points in South Wales, but the draw could be interesting at 19/5. That would be a very solid point for the hosts, who have a four-point cushion to the relegation zone.
Under 2.5 goals at 13/10
Cardiff have kept back-to-back clean sheets coming into this fixture, while Spurs looked a little leggy against Wolves.
Tottenham to win 1-0 at 15/2
This game looks like being a tight one, and this bet would be a fourth successive 1-0 victory for Spurs against Cardiff.
