Cardiff v Fulham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 16, 2018
Cardiff City Stadium - Premier League
Cardiff go in search of their first win on Saturday in the Premier League with the hosts a win away from escaping the relegation zone. Their opponents, Fulham, are struggling themselves and face being overtaken by the Bluebirds if they lose.
Fulham won this fixture last year when the two sides met in the Championship, in a thrilling fixture. Cardiff were never really in control, with the away side scoring early, adding a second after half-time and responding after each of Neil Warnock's side's attempts to catch-up.
Joe Ralls faces suspension following his red-card against Tottenham, this may well mean a formation change for Warnock, who was fielding the Welshman as a lone defensive midfielder. The manager has previously experimented with Sol Bamba in that position, although may be better off reverting to a double-pivot.
Slavisa Jokanovic may also be tempted to change formations, after a switch to a three man defence saw his team ripped apart against Arsenal. The manager will be keen to win however, and may be tempted to stick with the attacking formation with Ryan Sessegnon at full-back, allowing Luciano Vietto and Andre Schurlle to start further forward.
Cardiff v Fulham Preview and Predictions
Two of the Premier League's bottom four clubs face off this weekend, as both Cardiff and Fulham go in search of some vital points. Having both been promoted this season, Fulham's activity in the transfer market raises expectations, whilst Cardiff's failure to spent had pundits fearing the worst.
With eight games gone, the Bluebirds' season has started perhaps even worse than many predicted, with the side yet to win a game, locked bottom of the table with Newcastle on just four points. Warnock's side have, admittedly, had a tough run, and have played Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham within the space of a month. However, it is the performance of the side against the likes of Burnley that is a cause of concern, with the Premier League's only Welsh club failing to beat Norwich in the cup earlier.
Fulham have performed better against the weaker sides this season, having done well in the League Cup, and yet have just one Premier League win to their names this season. The Cottagers suffered a demoralising defeat to Arsenal in their last game, and Jokanovic will be desperate to have used the international break to improve his side's moral. The West London club haven't had a problem going forward, with the number of goals they have scored more than enough to fire them to safety. However, their record at the other end of the pitch has been far less positive, with the newly promoted side having conceded four more than any other team in the league this season.
Against Cardiff, who have scored the joint fewest goals, this could hand Fulham the advantage, allowing them to play their natural attacking game without the fear of a counter-attack. What is for certain, is that it should make for an entertaining game.
Aleksandr Mitrovic to score first at 3/1
The Serbian forward's form has dropped off recently, but his goals during the international break should serve to boost his confidence.
Both teams to score at 4/6
Saturday's game will be one of Cardiff's best chances to score so they are likely to play more expansive football than usual.
