Cardiff v Manchester United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 18, 2018
Cardiff City Stadium - Premier League
Manchester United travel to Cardiff this weekend, in search of a new manager having sacked Jose Mourinho mid-week. The Bluebirds are high on confidence having won three out of their last six games and will be a tough opponents for the Reds.
Manchester United may have won when the sides last met, but the most recent edition of this fixture saw a 2-2 draw! The two sides traded goals with Wayne Rooney opening the scoring, Fraizer Campbell equalising, Patrice Evra dragging the away side ahead, only for Kim Bo-Kyung to score in the 91st minute.
Jazz Richards, Greg Cunningham and Danny Ward are all absent for Neil Warnock's side - with the manager likely to field a similar XI to that which lost to Watford. Despite an impressive performance in the defeat Bobby Reid is unlikely to start, although Nathaniel Mendez-Laing may have done enough to warrant a spot on the flank.
Who-ever takes charge may opt to make major changes from the side that lost to Liverpool, with Paul Pogba surely set to return to the starting line-up. Elsewhere, Luke Shaw may be fit to reclaim his place from Ashley Young, potentially pushing the wide man further forward.
Cardiff v Manchester United Preview and Predictions
Cardiff may be the 11/2 underdogs against United on Saturday, but their recent resurgence in form will certainly be a cause of concern for Mourinho. The Bluebirds, from being relegation favourites, have put together a run that has seen them climb to 16th, and has created an air of positivity around the club.
This could not contrast more to the atmosphere in Manchester, where the club appears to be in crisis following defeat by Liverpool. Whilst losing away to the top team in the league is far from shameful, the manner in which they did so has drawn criticism from fans and pundits alike. Having made the decision to sack Mourinho, the board must act fast in bringing in a suitable replacement - who is willing to fulfill the targets set out to the coach. United go into the game at 8/13 with the draw 16/5.
Neil Warnock will attempt to take advantage of the air of uncertainty and insecurity around their opposition this weekend. United players will be on edge, whilst the Bluebirds can take to the pitch knowing that they are not expected to earn any points, but could very well do so.
Having shored up his defence, Warnock's side have been working on creativity over the past few weeks, and are still in desperate need of a regular goal-scorer. Callum Patterson has worked his socks off, but has yet to convince as a Premier League standard striker. This may not bode well for the entertainment value of Saturday's game - with United also struggling in the goal scoring department.
As a result, the neutral may not be in for a dazzling display of football at the Cardiff City Stadium - but with all the subplots there will be plenty to watch for.
Under 2.5 goals at 4/5
With neither side scoring freely at the moment, defences may come out on top on Saturday.
Maurizio Pochettino to take over as United manager at 66/1.
The Tottenham manager has long been linked with the Reds, but is surely unlikely to move until the summer.
