Cardiff vs Manchester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 18, 2018
Principality Stadium - Premier League
Cardiff hope to avoid their fourth straight defeat on Saturday, but face a Manchester City side showing no signs of slowing down. The Premier League champions dispatched Fulham with ease last weekend, and will feel confident up against another promoted side.
The two sides met just last year in an FA Cup fixture that saw Manchester City run out comfortable 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Kevin De Brunye and Raheem Sterling.
Neil Warnock may be tempted to risk Josh Murphy after the winger missed out against Chelsea, likewise Aron Gunnarsson could be in contention against the Premier League champions. The manager will be without Nathaniel Mendez-Laing after the winger suffered a serious knee injury against Norwich.
Pep Guardiola is likely to make wholesale changes to the side that played Lyon midweek, with Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez and Nicolas Otamendi all tipped to start. With Kevin De Brunye, Danilo and Claudio Bravo all long-term absences, the manager may not be able to make as many changes as he would otherwise have liked.
Cardiff v Manchester City Preview and Predictions
Neil Warnock's job isn't set to get any easier as Cardiff face Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday. The Welsh side have yet to win a game this season, and ended up on the wrong side of a 4-1 defeat by Chelsea last weekend, marking their third loss on the bounce.
Manchester City, on the other hand, have won every game but one, and look in the same inspired form that saw them win the competition last term. Pep Guardiola's side has such incredible strength in depth that they are unlikely to suffer from their mid-week Champions League fixture, rather, Saturday's match will provide an opportunity to test some fringe players.
For City, this includes the likes of £60 million Riyad Mahrez, however, fans may be more interested to see whether youth product Phil Foden gets at game at the weekend. The 18-year-old featured heavily in the club's pre-season fixtures, earning an assist against Chelsea in the community shield, and looks set for a bright future in Manchester. The only question is whether he will get enough game time in a squad filled with so much talent.
Warnock on the other hand, has a very different issue, with his side suffering from an overall lack of quality. Cardiff spent far less than the other promoted teams, and started their season with a widely similar XI to that which earned them second place in the Championship. As the early results have shown, this is simply not enough to deliver success in the Premier League, and Saturday's game could well be a match up between the best and worst squads in the leagues.
Regardless, football matches are never won on paper and whether Warnock is able to mastermind a point-worthy performance remains to be seen.
Over 3.5 goals scored 1/1
City hit three against Fulham, and have momentum on their side in the league.
Gabriel Jesus to score first at 3/1
The young Brazilian has been second choice to Sergio Aguero and will use Saturday as a chance to prove himself.
