Chelsea v Brighton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 24, 2019
Stamford Bridge - Premier League
Frank Lampard will fully expected his team to return to winning ways this weekend, as Chelsea welcome Brighton to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon. The Seagulls haven’t won since the opening day of the season, and haven’t beaten the Blues in 86 years.
Brighton last beat Chelsea all the way back in 1933, although the teams have only met 11 times since then. The Blues have won all four of the Premier League meetings between the sides, scoring 11 goals and conceding only one.
Callum Hudson-Odoi is closing in on a return to action after recovering from an Achilles injury and signing a new bumper contract, while Andreas Christensen is a doubt after picking up a knock against Liverpool on Sunday. Fellow defenders Antonio Rudiger and Emerson Palmieri are out, along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Seagulls manager Graham Potter could welcome back Neal Maupay, Ezequiel Schelotto, Bernardo and Solomon March from injury this week. Leandro Trossard is out for another month though, while Jose Izquierdo, Leon Balogun and Alireza Jahanbakhsh are all on the treatment table too.
Chelsea v Brighton Preview and Predictions
Chelsea managed to salvage some pride in defeat against early Premier League pacesetters Liverpool last weekend, but that doesn’t mask the problems at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are down in the bottom half of the table, only four places above Saturday’s opponents, Brighton.
Although the Seagulls haven’t won since their first game of the new campaign, they have managed three draws since, while their most recent defeat came against champions Manchester City. Albion have drawn their last two matches, at home to Burnley and away to Newcastle, as new boss Potter attempts to transform his team’s playing style.
That will take time, and it will also mean Brighton will try to play their football at Stamford Bridge. This could mean Chelsea have plenty of opportunities to utilise their pace up top, with Tammy Abraham thriving in his starting role and showing his willingness to run in behind.
The young English striker has fired in seven goals already this term, while Mason Mount has also chipped in with three. Chelsea’s academy products are learning all the time, but they’re a long way from their conquerors last time out, Liverpool. The Blues should have enough to get the win this weekend though, and they are 9/20 to do so. Brighton are available at 7/1, while the draw’s priced at 37/10.
Chelsea to win to nil at 13/8
Brighton haven’t scored an away goal since beating Watford in their season opener, and this looks a solid way of enhancing your odds on the home win.
Abraham to score first at 15/4
The 21-year-old had scored seven goals in three games prior to Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool, and the striker will fancy his chances against a Brighton defence that conceded four away to Manchester City at the end of August.
