Chelsea v Manchester City Predictions and Betting Tips
April 03, 2017
Wednesday 5 April – Stamford Bridge – Premier League
It’s a big one at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening, as Premier League leaders Chelsea welcome Manchester City to town. The betting’s on a tight one between the teams led by Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola, as the hosts look to take another big step towards the title.
Honours are relatively even over recent years between the two teams. In the last 10 league games, City have won four and Chelsea three, including a 3-1 victory for Conte’s men at the Etihad in December. Chelsea hit City for five in the FA Cup just over a year ago too, albeit against a weakened team.
Chelsea will be relieved that Eden Hazard’s calf injury has now healed, while fellow Belgian Thibaut Courtois is also fit. The goalkeeper sat out his national team’s draw in Russia with a hip problem, but has overcome the issue. Diego Costa and Victor Moses have both had problems of late, but should be fit to play.
Over in the sky blue corner, Guardiola will be hoping that Kevin de Bruyne has overcome his groin strain. The playmaker has been in great form recently, linking up brilliantly with the resurgent Sergio Aguero. With Gabriel Jesus’ continued absence, the Argentinian should start up front once again.
Chelsea v Manchester City Preview and Predictions
After Sunday’s visit to the Emirates, the tough tests keep on coming for Manchester City in the English capital. The trip to West London is even more daunting, as the Citizens come up against the Premier League’s runaway leaders. It’s a real clash of ideologies at Stamford Bridge as two heavyweight clubs bring their celebrated managers to the party.
Prior to their game against Crystal Palace on Saturday, Chelsea had won 17 of their 18 home games under Conte. This fearsome home record has been the cornerstone of their Premier League dominance, and victory over City would see another difficult game safely negotiated on an unrelenting march to the title. Despite the defeat against Palace, the hosts start as 11/8 favourites in the betting to continue their impressive run.
Guardiola’s side on the other hand have struggled at times on the road this season, especially against the better teams. They were swept aside 4-0 by Everton and have lost at Liverpool, Tottenham and Leicester. It doesn’t get much tougher than Chelsea though, meaning City go into Wednesday’s game as 9/4 underdogs. If you fancy the Manchester club to claim a draw, you can get a price of 5/2.
Both teams to score at 5/7
With so many exciting attacking players on the pitch, it’s hard to see either side drawing a blank. The odds aren’t very big, but you’d think this one should be a relatively safe bet.
Chelsea to win from behind at 21/2
The odds are long on this, but if City score first, you’d still fancy the likes of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa to have a thing or two to say in the game.
