Chelsea v Manchester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 28, 2017
Stamford Bridge - Premier League
It’s a mouthwatering clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, as in-form Chelsea face free-scoring Manchester City in the Premier League. A win for the hosts would see them level on points with Pep Guardiola’s side.
City have the edge over recent years, winning 10 of the last 20 games to Chelsea’s seven. The Stamford Bridge outfit won both of the games last season though, with a 3-1 win at the Etihad backed up by a 2-1 success in the return fixture.
After being named on the bench against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, Antonio Conte should have Pedro available for this one. David Luiz is suspended so Gary Cahill should start, while there are doubts over Alvaro Morata after the striker was spotted limping after Chelsea's midweek game. Danny Drinkwater remains on the sidelines with a calf strain, still yet to make his debut for the Blues.
The other Blues will be without left-back Benjamin Mendy, who’s set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after injuring his knee against Crystal Palace last weekend. It’s a real shame for the Frenchman after the impressive start he’s made to his Premier League career, while Guardiola’s also likely to be without captain Vincent Kompany due to his calf problem.
Chelsea v Manchester City Preview and Predictions
Even though it’s still the early days of the season, this game promises to give us a good indication of where these two teams are at. It’s a real test for the visitors, who’ve been blowing teams away in recent weeks but are yet to face a side of Chelsea’s quality yet this season.
The ability in this Chelsea team’s been clear to see since the opening day defeat against Burnley, and was backed up on Wednesday evening with that stunning last-gasp win over Atletico. With Eden Hazard returning to his explosive best, they’re looking like the real deal once again. However, the hosts go into this game as underdogs in the betting, and you can back them at 15/8.
A big part of City’s attacking flair up to now has been the impact of new full-backs Mendy and Kyle Walker. Fabian Delph deputised for Mendy on Tuesday against Shakhtar Donetsk, and it’ll be interesting to see if Guardiola picks the English midfielder there again or goes with Danilo. Whoever plays at the back, the Citizens are brimming with attacking talent up top. This helps them to start as the bookmakers’ slight favourites at 8/5. If you think the game will end in a draws, that’s 27/10.
Manchester City to win and both teams to score at 38/11
With question marks still lingering over City’s defence, this bet’s a great way to boost your odds on the visitors picking up the win.
Chelsea to win from behind at 11/1
Back the hosts to make a slow start after their midweek exertions, before finding their feet and coming back to claim the three points.
