Chelsea v Manchester United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 16, 2018
Stamford Bridge - Premier League
Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, as the Premier League returns with a vengeance after the international break. The visitors had a positive result on their last outing, but the Blues have been excellent so far this season.
Chelsea were victorious in last season’s FA Cup final between the pair, and won by the same 1-0 scoreline at Stamford Bridge last term. The Blues have won their last three home games against the Red Devils in all competitions, while no United boss has tasted victory in west London since Sir Alex Ferguson managed the feat in 2012.
Maurizio Sarri is sweating on Antonio Rudiger’s fitness after the German international missed the international break with a groin strain. Ethan Ampadu is also a doubt for this game, but the Chelsea boss has a fully-fit squad apart from those two.
Luke Shaw, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard all missed their countries’ fixtures during the break and are doubts for the trip to the capital. Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo both miss out, while Scott McTominay is also a doubt.
Chelsea v Manchester United Preview and Predictions
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho received a lifeline after his team recovered from going two goals down to beat Newcastle before the international break. That could be a mere stay of execution though, as the beleaguered Portuguese boss faces a trip to his old stomping ground.
Chelsea blew United away 4-0 on Mourinho’s first return to Stamford Bridge as the United boss, and a similar result would bring the pressure piling back at their former manager’s door. The Blues certainly have a result like that in their locker, and they remain unbeaten after their first eight games of the Premier League season.
The hosts are 37/50 for the win, as they look to keep pace with Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the pile. United meanwhile are seven points back at this early stage of the campaign, with a title challenge looking out of reach.
The Reds are 22/5 to pick up a massive three points on Saturday, which would do wonders for their season. They’ve failed to score in their last four games against Chelsea away from Old Trafford though, so a draw might be the best the visitors can hope for, and it’s priced at 56/19.
Chelsea to win to nil at 2/1
This bet would’ve paid out on United’s last three trips to Stamford Bridge, and it could be one of the best tips for this game.
Eden Hazard to score first at 9/2
The Belgian forward has seven goals in eight league games so far this term, with four of those to break the deadlock.
