Stamford Bridge - Premier League

Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge this weekend, with both sides looking to close the gap at the top on Manchester City.

Past Meetings

Matches between these two clubs have thrown up some titanic battles in recent seasons, but Chelsea have secured themselves a clear advantage against their old rivals. In the last ten Premier League meetings between the two, Chelsea have lost just once, and picked up three wins at Stamford Bridge along the way.

However that one defeat came in their most recent meeting at Old Trafford last season, with Jose Mourinho's side securing a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera.

Team News

Jesse Lingard joins a growing injury lists for the visitors, as the versatile midfielder joins Michael Carrick and Paul Pogba on the sidelines after he picked up a back injury in United's midweek win over Benfica.

Marouane Fellaini is back in training following a knee injury, however the Belgian international is lacking in match fitness for such a key game, Mourinho is likely to make a late decision on the midfielder.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will be hoping that key man N'Golo Kante can return to the Chelsea line up for the first time since the end of September. The Frenchman picked up an injury on international duty and has been sidelined since, he sat out their loss to Roma on Tuesday night, and he should be fit in time for Sunday.

Wing back Victor Moses is still out of action with a hamstring injury, and he is expected to be out for another two weeks.

Chelsea v Manchester United Preview and Preview and Predictions

Chelsea are on a strong run of domestic form following back to back losses to Manchester City and Crystal Palace, winning three games in a row in League and Cup action. However their European form has undermined this, with a draw and a defeat to Roma either side of that run.

United are excelling in Europe, with back to back wins over Benfica virtually ensuring their progress into proved the last 16 of the Champions League, however defeat to Huddersfield and a draw against Liverpool has to be a black mark against their league form recently.

With what is at stake neither side will really want to go for this one, and given Mourinho's preference for defensive tactics against the big sides, another draw between these two sides looks to be a good option - priced at 11/5.

Despite the attacking talent on display for both sides, a cagey affair is expected, with Mourinho determined not to lose to against his old employers again, and an under 2.5 goals bet looks likely - priced at 8/13.

Recommended Bets

A 1-1 draw at 11/2

Neither side can really afford to lose this game due the damage it can do to their title push credentials, and the form of leaders Manchester City in recent weeks. Mourinho will be cagey and defensive and Conte will not want to see his side make the same defensive errors they did in Italy, and may look to stiffen his defence with the addition of another defender.

Alvaro Morata to score first at 4/1

Spanish international Morata has been excellent for Chelsea following his summer move from Real Madrid, netting six Premier League goals so far this season. His pace and aerial power will be a threat to a United defence that has performed well in recent weeks, without being overly tested by Liverpool and a Harry Kane-less Tottenham.
