Chelsea v Sheffield United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 27, 2019
Stamford Bridge - Premier League
Chelsea look to build on their first win of the season, as they host the newly-promoted, but not to underestimated, Sheffield United. The Blades have had an identical start to the season to their hosts, but are ahead of the Blues on goal-difference.
The two sides haven't met for over ten years, with Chelsea coming out on top in a 2007 clash thanks to goals from Andriy Shevchenko, Salomon Kalou and Michael Ballack.
Saturday may see the reintroduction of Antonio Rudiger, the defender having missed the end of last season through injury. Pedro, however, remains an injury doubt having pulled-up in the warm-up against Norwich, joining long-term absentees, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Reece James. N'Golo Kante should also be fit, having been rested to recover from a minor-knee problem.
Chris Wilder made whole-sale changes to his strike partnership against Leicester, bringing on veteran Billy Sharp and new-boy Ollie McBurnie. The duo may hope to start this weekend, as will Luke Freeman, who has stepped in for the injured John Fleck.
Chelsea V Sheffield United Predictions and Previews
Sheffield United have made a solid start to their Premier League return, although face a tough task against Frank Lampard's Chelsea. The Blues look far from the finished article, but are steadily improving and have the benefit of mass positivity around Stamford Bridge.
In last week's win over Norwich, Lampard's side showed signs of brilliance, carving up the opposition defence at will, although looked just as susceptible to lapses themselves. Fans will hope that the returning Antonio Rudiger, who has grown into his role as a starting centre-back, will shore up the defence, with N'Golo Kante's return boosting the transitional abilities of the midfield.
Wilder will know that he can get at the unsure Chelsea defence, and has already showed his side's ability to overload areas of the pitch, something that Lampard's side struggled with against Norwich. The only concern for the Blades is whether their centre-forwards are clinical enough to his their hosts when the opportunity arises. Both McBurnie and Sharp are off the mark already this season, but the former has averaged 0.5 shots per game, with the latter on 1.5. Given that the likes of Mason Mount and Ross Barkley are hitting closes to four shots per game, Sheffield United will need to make their opportunities count.
Both sides like to get the ball on the ground and play proper football, but are not afraid to hit it long to mix the play up. This should make for an interesting game on Saturday, that should be a good watch for the neutral.
Tammy Abraham to score anytime at 6/5
The Chelsea academy product looked off the pace at the start of the season but won man of the match against Norwich and will be full of confidence.
Both teams to score at 19/20
Chelsea have yet to keep a clean sheet this season, and are unlikely to do so on Sunday.
